Love Always, Kate (Love Always #1)

Dear Diary,
Leukemia’s been my life since I was eleven. Now, six years later, I want my life back. Only I’m not sure what that is. The test results came back today. 22,000. Which means I’m officially out of remission—again. I have three options:

1) Another round of chemo.
2) A super-new experimental drug.
3) Dump it all— forget the meds and treatments and enjoy the time I have left.

I think I know what I want. Then, in walks Damian, changing everything.
I mean, everything…

He’s got his own set of issues. It binds us together, you know? We understand what it’s like to lose what matters most in seconds. Still, the last thing I need is to have someone else to crush if I can’t fight hard enough. And the last thing he needs is someone else to grieve.

Never mind. I’m down to two options now.

Somehow I know that whichever one I choose, the result will be the same. With the sand in my hourglass seeping to the bottom, I hope there’s enough left to show Damian that life’s worth living.

Worth fighting for. Worth dying for.

Love Always, Kate

Love Always, Damian (Love Always #2)

They say time heals all wounds.
What a load of bull. It’s been four years, and Kate’s voice still echoes in my mind.
Every. Damn. Day.
I numb her memory when it taunts me. In college, I drown her out with booze and easy lays. I can’t do what she asked.
I can’t let her go.

Not even when Lia shows up, freaking ripping what’s left of me to shreds. Caring about someone isn’t worth the deadness that follows after they’re gone. I didn’t ask for this. Didn’t ask for her.

And I sure as hell didn’t plan to miss her when she walked out of my front door.
Now, if I want to keep her, I have to straighten myself out and earn her. I can’t screw this up.
Because if I do, I’ll lose more than just Lia.  I’ll lose my life.

I’m going to start this review with a bold statement…..These are two of the best books I have EVER read, easily in my top 5.  I have NEVER cried so hard, so consistently while reading.  And let me be clear…I cried because I was incredibly sad AND I cried because I was so damn happy.

I knew the first book was going to be sad, anyone who reads the back of Kate’s book knows that and I thought I was ready for it….I was so not ready.  NOT EVEN CLOSE.  Then I decided I needed to read the second book right away because I needed some sort of resolution, some kind of happy ending to make all of the crying worth it.  I expected it to be more uplifting (and eventually it was) but in all honesty…I cried more consistently and much harder during this book.  My throat hurts from crying, my eyes will probably be puffy for the next two days and I think I went through an entire roll of toilet paper blowing my nose.  And, in case I haven’t mentioned it, I adored every single second of it.

These books are gorgeously written, incredible intelligent, wonderfully emotional and perfectly crafted.  The intricacies of the story are amazing, every word has a purpose, every action has a result, every loose end has a beautiful resolution.   God I can’t remember ever loving a story this much.  I can’t remember ever loving and understand and CARING about characters this much.  And not just one character, not just the main characters….every single character!!!  The author’s ability to put us inside the character’s head and let us understand exactly where they are coming from is amazing and it’s done without endless monologues which is wonderful.

Just a couple more things and then I’m done gushing.

I think what really made these two books easily some of the best I’ve ever read was the author’s willingness to show the ugly as well as the beautiful.  Most authors are too worried about readers disliking their characters to really show the ugly stuff…but not De.  Her willingness to be brave as an author was so rewarding to me as a reader and her ability to zig when every author out there would have zagged made these two books unforgettable.  I was constantly surprised, that never happens to me any more.  These characters will live with me for a long time and I have no doubt I will read these books over and over.

READ THESE BOOKS.  It will be kind of like rough sex…you’ll hate me through 3/4 of it and LOVE me when it’s over!! Hehe

Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town, Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those wranglers, but she won’t be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family’s farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won’t make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she’s been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that’s blissfully real.

This review was a hard one for me to write and I’m not sure why.  I’m a huge fan of the  second chance trope and Last First Kiss is definitely one of those. Plus, This is my first Lia Riley book so I was really excited about it.  So the easy thing to say is that I liked the book, I did… I really liked it.

Annie, a recently divorced mom and at home blogger, moves back to the hometown she ran away from 10 years before. She hated her home town and never felt like she fit in, except with one person, her only and best friend Sawyer Kane. But, at a graduation party senior year, Sawyer broke her heart and Annie hit the road, never intending to come back.

Reluctantly back home, Annie realizes that her feelings for Sawyer might not be buried as deep as she once thought.  Her confusion only mounts as Sawyer makes it clear that he wasn’t done with their relationship when Annie left.

This book was sweet and cute and kind of romantic.  And Brightwater is quaint and small and full of busy bodies just like you’d expect.  I liked the book, I did.

The thing that’s harder to say is that I liked it, but I only liked it.  I didn’t love it.  It was cute but it didn’t inspire any real emotion in me.  It was sweet, but I think I like my books with a little more edge.  Even Sawyer, who was cute and romantic, didn’t really do anything for me.

I think the series had promise and truthfully I’m really looking forward to Archer’s story.  As I said, I like a little more edge and I’m pretty sure Archer has it.

The Up-Ending Tad Series by Kora Knight

Synopsis

Book 1     Tad’s weekend started out like any other; hitting a college frat party with a handful of buddies. But just as the evening hits its peak, things get up-ended fast. Ditched by his drunken, trolling friends, Tad winds up getting hustled by three jocks playing poker. Now he’s forced to pay his dues in the most outlandish of ways; accepting a couple broken bones or spending an hour with his victors’ favorite flogger, Scott. But the guy’s tantalizing torture quickly proves to be the least of Tad’s worries… and the kickoff to a night of raw, shocking lust.
Experience the graphic, minute-by-minute account of that hour spent at the hands of Tad’s insatiable tormentor. Addicting chemistry lights the stage as Scott ignites Tad’s reluctant desires into a frenzy of forbidden need.

Book 2    The last time Tad saw Scott, the ripped physical trainer left him with quite a lot to think about. And that’s pretty much all Tad’s been doing for nearly two weeks straight. At his wit’s end, he seeks Scott out, voluntarily, on his own terms. Will the completely different setting offer what he’s seeking; proof that their exchange’s unexpected turn was just a random mishap? Hormones run amok and truly nothing more? Or will being in Scott’s presence suggest something different… their newest encounter tempting Tad’s resolve while testing his ultimate limits.

Book 3    Round two with Scott hadn’t been what Tad expected, but it did end up providing a few important realizations. For one, that crazy first encounter was definitely more than mere male hormones. Which meant he felt a true attraction to the guy. Something that explained his defencelessness against Scott’s smoldering charms. Seriously, the dude had cut through his fortifications like the things hadn’t even existed.
Which, yeah, was pretty unsettling.
So Tad had resolved to cope with his findings the only logical way he knew how: purge the guy from his system once and for all by staying away for good. Unfortunately, that proved way more uncomfortable than he’d anticipated. Seemed his “stupid infatuation” ran considerably deeper, which made going cold-turkey one miserable chore.
So when Scott unexpectedly seeks him out, Tad’s too drained to fight his turmoil any longer. Allowing himself a much needed fix, he agrees to hang out, neither he nor Scott knowing Dom boy Max will end up part of the deal. What starts out as an unassuming evening quickly turns shockingly licentious. Question is, will Tad be able to handle it? And more importantly, what path will it send him down in his ongoing journey of discovery?

Book 4    With Tad’s reservations firmly on the one-eighty, he’s finally more at ease exploring this intriguing new part of himself, especially where his attraction, and affections, for Scott are concerned. But when their evening plans get cancelled, Tad winds up watching the guy in action at the gym instead. Kickboxing lessons lead to sparring, which in turn leads to a face-off more erotic than Tad could have ever imagined. With huge new boundaries crossed, both men are floored like never before. Have these milestones finally put all Tad’s hang-ups behind him?

Book 5   It’s Friday night and Tad finds himself doing pretty much what he’d expected. Celebrating with his friends at a night club in honor of their buddy Breck’s birthday. The music’s pumping, drinks are flowing, as laughter and dancing bodies abound.
Nothing too outlandish, nothing unusual.
Until Scott and his own crew show up at the place. Funny how the one person Tad prefers above all others is the last person he wants to see. But now that he’s spotted the guy across the room, he can’t seem to take his eyes off him. Which winds up being a very bad thing. Seems Scott out in public with other attractive men is a much different story than Tad’s used to.
As one disturbing event after another unfolds, Tad splits before he loses his mind. But the breather he needs he does not get. In fact, things just go from bad to worse, the night ending on a note he never would have imagined. As things between Scott and him hit rock bottom, the only direction left must be up. If only Tad’s life would follow such a formula. But the path he’s been walking lately has never been that simple.
With a world of revelations finally revealed, can Tad find it in himself to make peace with Scott’s past so they can finally head into the future?

I adored this entire series and to be honest…it caught me by surprise. I picked it up on Kindle Unlimited because the cover of the first book was hot and I was in the mood for M/M (not quite sure why because it’s not usually my go to genre but I went with the feeling.) I am so glad I did…this series was wonderful and so much more than I could have hoped for. I thought I was reading M/M erotica…what I got was a beautiful, believable, emotional, hot as hell love story.

Everything in this story works…EVERYTHING. I believed every emotion, every action and every character. Tad’s journey is so well written and so gradual that you can’t help but feel for him every step of the way. And Scott was perfect, invested and patient but clearly focused on what he wanted. Tad and Scott were amazing, I have such a crush on these two boys…my favorite M/M pairing ever.

And this is erotica…very hot, very graphic, very inventive sex that meshes perfectly with the romance between Scott, the guy who knows exactly who he is and what he wants and Tad, the guy who identifies himself as straight and can’t figure out why he can’t stop thinking about Scott.

I binge read this entire series, then I went back and re-read my favorite parts (and there are a lot of them).

Bite and Release

Ryan Chase left Fairbanks, Alaska, when she was 21 years old to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Somewhere along the way her dreams of stardom crashed and burned, along with her life.

Thirteen years later she is forced to return to Fairbanks because her unforgiving and emotionally-distant father has suddenly died. Ryan seizes the opportunity to not only escape her abusive husband but to be able to attend her best friend’s wedding. What could go wrong? It’s only Fairbanks, Alaska…
While wishing she was anywhere but her father’s funeral and wake, Ryan is struck senseless by a stunning, drop-dead gorgeous man. Her thoughts turn carnal and she desperately wants to know him in every way—and position—possible. There’s only one problem…

He’s the devil’s spawn.
He’s the one who marked her for life.
He’s the kid she used to baby-sit.
And he’s hotter than hell!

Shea Michaels has loved Ryan Chase for most of his life. After surviving an unspeakable childhood, he became a man of whom she could be proud of…if she ever came back.
Now that she’s returned, Shea pursues her with a vengeance, undaunted by the thirteen year age difference that Ryan uses as the shield between them.

Confusion, guilt and lust bombard Ryan as she battles the memories of the little boy she used to know while still being drawn to the heart-stopping man he has become.

*This is Shea’s POV. CANNOT BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE!
I waited my entire life for one singular moment.
Everything I had endured—all the pain and suffering—I would go through it all again,
if I knew she was waiting for me.

Ryan Chase was the only woman I ever loved.
My obsession. My desire.

When she came home . . . loving her hadn’t been easy.
The road to our particular happiness was paved with boulders.
I became who she needed me to be. Who she wanted.
Marriage and children— they were a dream we both shared.
Until a nightmare threatened to take it all away.

Is love supposed to be this hard?
How long before the person I’m pretending to be begins to crack?
I’m a liar. A fraud.
He is surfacing.

She’s the only reason I survived. I lived.
She is the reason I breathe.
Now, when she needs me the most—I’m transforming into the person
I thought I’d buried years before.

I can’t be without her. She gives me purpose and makes me whole.
Nevertheless, the universe chose a different route. God had a different plan.
And right now, I’m pissed at them both.

The first irresistible novel in a hot new series about a rock star on his way up—and the woman he wants to take all the way…

I absolutely this book! I read a lot of these rock star romances and this is one of my very favorite! I love both of the main characters, completely real, believable, insecure, flawed, strong people. There was just the right amount of backstory to really flesh out the characters and make you feel like you understood their motivations and reactions. I thought the sexual tension and the drama and the romance and the friendship and the obstacles all seemed true to real life, not manufactured to cause drama. God, I could FEEL the attraction, the frustration, the joy, the release, the heartache and the love.

And for the record….Jonny ‘Slater’ Vaughn might just be the best book boyfriend I’ve ever come across.  He is flawed perfection and watching him fall for Emmie and navigate his way through a crazy business as his dreams come true is the best of all roller coaster rides.  And once he sets his sights on Emmie he is relentless in all the best ways.

And Emmie is a wonderful character.  Strong, smart and independent, she’s determined to help her brother and his band succeed and equally determined not to fall for another rock star.  Burned by her last rock star boyfriend, she knows better than to fall for the gorgeous front man of Snatch, but the more time she spends with him the harder it is to remember why he’s a bad idea.

All of the peripheral characters and storylines were great too, not too much, just enough to add to the story.  Emmie’s relationship with her brother was a nice addition. Derek’s book is up next, but in the mean time, I am starting over at page 1 and reading this entire book again!  BTW this is a standalone novel!

Back Stage (Power Station #3) by T. Gephart

Rock Star? Angie Morelli was not one. Growing up next to Power Station’s drummer didn’t guarantee a taste of the limelight, unless you count catcalls at low paying gigs in seedy bars and second-rate venues. She was okay with that; working her ass off at her dad’s mechanic shop during the day meant she could live her dream at night. She didn’t need Power Station waltzing back into her life, Jason Irwin had done enough damage the first time. Could she let go of her hurt for a chance of hitting the big time?

A one-night stand right before Jason Irwin left for his big break was no big deal. Except it wasn’t just any girl— it was Angie, Troy’s hot but young and inexperienced neighbor. It should never have happened, so best he pretend like it didn’t. Ten years later he remembered exactly why he went down that road. She was even hotter and she was also pissed as hell. Sounded like the perfect combination to invite on their world tour.

The road was not the place for history. It was bound to get ugly.

5 Star Review

At this point I would have to say I consider myself a bit of a Power Station groupie and this final book in the series definitely fed my fangirl addiction. The author finishes off this series with a bang that will not disappoint and she introduces a new band that will leave you hoping for just a little bit more.

Angie and Jason have a history that for ten years has left him feeling guilty and her pissed as hell. So when her band ends up as the opening act on Power Station’s tour neither one of them are exactly thrilled. But of course, the attraction is still there and pretty soon the oil and water of their relationship changes to gasoline and a lit match.

Angie is one of my favorite female leads, and it’s unusual for the female lead to be the reason I love a book, but Angie is. She has it all…talent, a kick ass band, a great sense of humor and a backbone of steel. She somehow manages to be tough and vulnerable, sweet and bitter, fearless and insecure and in the end wonderfully compassionate and giving. I would love to hang out with Ash and Megs, but I would love to BE Angie.

Jace is Jace…quiet, stoic, emotionally closed off but somehow kind, protective and fun. He was hot as hell but frustrating too. He’s drawn to Angie and can’t keep himself away, but he also believes he can’t offer her anything beyond sex. Jason’s past, when he finally reveals it, changes everything, including how Angie sees him and all bets are off after that.

All of the old favorites are back in this one and I was thrilled to find that they all play a pretty big part in this book, which only made it better!! (especially Dan…my super secret douchbag crush and Troy…everybody’s favorite sweetheart!) Angie’s band…Black Addiction are a fabulous group of new characters and her best friend and band mate Rusty is a scene stealer if ever there was one(no small feat in a book that features the Power Station boys). Rusty was smart, funny and absolutely perfect..if that boy doesn’t get his own book there is just something not right in the world.

This book is the perfect finale to a group of characters you can’t help but fall in love with and the send off the author gives this band is magnificent. I’m holding out hope that the guys will be back again, especially if Rusty gets a book, but if not, I could not have wished for a better end to their story.

Theirs to Take by Natasha Knight

Eva Webb didn’t know what she’d find the night she secretly followed her fiancé. She had feared he was meeting another woman.

But it was so much worse than that.

The man she loved betrayed and kidnapped her, packing her onto a truck destined for the black market to be sold to the highest bidder.

But when the vehicle is ambushed, she is delivered into the hands of her fiancé’s enemies: mercenary brothers who would stop at nothing to take him down.

For Gabriel and Syn Rivera, hijacking the truck and stealing its cargo was another job, another way of taking back what was stolen from them.

Discovering Eva on board was an unexpected bonus.

They now held in their grasp the one thing that could bring down an entire organization, making her a pawn in a deadly game — a game in which she’d need their protection to survive. But that protection would come at a price.

Now captive to the brothers, Eva would learn that they have always shared their women, and she would be no exception. They would keep her safe. They would protect her. And they would make her theirs as well.

But in a world where criminals often wear two faces, where putting your trust in the wrong people can get you killed, will Eva find she has mistaken lust for love, or will this unlikely union survive?

Publisher’s Note: Intended for mature readers. Over 18 only. This romantic suspense includes MFM Menage (no sexual contact between the men), graphic sexuality, spanking and other BDSM activities. If such content might offend you, please don’t buy this book.

I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you are looking for a quick, hot and dirty ménage with just enough romance to make it enjoyable, this is probably your book.  I was expecting hot threesomes and BDSM and that was exactly what I got.  This book is well written and the characters are likable, especially Eva who has a little too much backbone to be truly submissive.  Her sassy mouth gets her in trouble and the brothers are only too willing to dole out the punishments.  These brothers are sexy, kinky and get off on administering humiliation and punishments and despite what her mind is telling her, Eva’s body seems to get turned on by it too.  As the relationship develops, Eva has a difficult time deciding if she can trust her body and her heart with the brothers or if they are the real enemy.

Just a warning, these boys get off on some pretty heavy whippings.  And ladies, you might need to bring a change of panties along on this ride.

Beneath the Cape…A Superhero Anthology

Cheryl McIntyre (one of my very favorite authors EVER)  dropped some exciting news today for fans of Superheroes and Romance

Romance authors, Angela McPherson, Cheryl McIntyre, Christine Zolendz, D Nichole King, Laura Thalassa, Lynn Vroman, Magan Vernon, and Sunniva Dee bring you seven different New Adult Romance

Here’s what Cheryl had to say:
I’ve been waiting for FOREVER to share this news with you all!

About a year ago, I was watching Thor, and I was thinking about how much I like Thor—I mean, come on, Chris Hemsworth is HOT! And I thought about how much more I would like it if there was even MORE focus on the romance between Jane and Thor, and maybe even Loki could have a love interest. So that got me thinking about how comic books, though awesome, are typically marketed to men. Women like superheroes too, but we like romance better.

So I started messaging author friends. Some got it. Some didn’t. But the ones who did signed on, and now, after a year of planning and writing, I can finally, FINALLY announce Beneath the Cape—The Superhero Anthology will release on July 1, 2015!

A HUGE thank you to Book Covers by Ashbee Designs for donating the gorgeous cover!
