Synopsis

Not everyone plays by the rules.

Eva Papageorgiou has it all: the popularity that always felt so elusive in high school, looks that men can’t ignore, and a boyfriend that other women covet. She’s gorgeous, powerful; she has the world at her fingertips.

And it’s all a lie.

The problem with living a lie is how easy it is to forget who you’re lying to. Eva’s time to withdraw into the shadows has expired, courtesy of Rob’s rising fame. Her only option is to hide in plain sight.
Amid all the chaos, Rob is her safe escape from it all. They continue to be stronger together than they ever could be on their own.
Until being together is what tears them apart.

Rob Falls has everything he’s ever wanted: his dream girl, a winning team, respect from everyone. He’s at the top of his game, with a Heisman nod on the horizon, and the potential to be a first-round draft pick.

And it’s all crumbling before his eyes.

The mounting pressure of being an athlete at the next level while doing all he can to protect Eva takes its toll. He doesn’t sleep enough, he worries constantly, and he’s torn wanting to be in two places at once.
Rob never imagined the day he’d have to choose between fame and love.

Sometimes life makes choices for us.

With the game and their hearts on the line, will Rob and Eva keep their secrets hidden? Or will they reveal everything to each other, to themselves, to the world…only to lose it all?

Kata Cuic’s tagline is Real Romance from the Trenches of Real Life. Seriously, there has never been anything more fitting. This book, these characters… they are real to me. I think about them, I cry for them, I hope for them, I want for them. When this series ends I will mourn the loss of them, I will cry because I won’t get to follow them into old age. Hell, I have tears rolling down my face right now just thinking about it. Nobody…NOBODY writes like this. I can’t think of one other author that writes real life so perfectly, so eloquently and so emotionally.

This book is both a big departure from the first two books of the series and a perfect logical inevitable progression for the characters. The first book, First and Goal, is sweet and funny and emotional. It’s first love and first mistakes at their finest. The second book, Second Down, is sadder and tougher. It’s love surviving in the face of adversity and heartbreak. And this book….this book is love struggling to survive in the face of real life. Real life were things can go from amazing to unbearable in the blink of an eye, where things aren’t fair and love isn’t easy and some days it’s all you can do to hold on. But where the good days make all the bad days worth the effort.

Rob and Evie are real people to me. They are so intricate and fleshed out and believable. In this book, more than any of the others in the series, you understand them, you feel what they feel, you know them and consequently you take the journey with them. When they got it right, my heart rejoiced with theirs, and when they made mistakes my heart broke with theirs, and when they cried, I cried horrible ugly-cry tears. I have never, in my life, read a book that made me feel so much. And the other characters in this story elicit just as much emotion from me. There are characters that I love passionately, and characters I hate viscerally. There is literally not one character in this story that I don’t have some kind of reaction to…and that to me is the mark of a great book. Nothing is a throwaway, everything, every character, every scene, every action,  builds this world and this story.

I read a ton of books, and I have for years, and in my opinion, there are only a handful of authors I’ve come across that can make a story live and breathe real life the way Kata Cuic does. I have loved other books and other couples, but with Rob and Evie I find myself constantly needing to be reminded that they are not, in fact, real people. Third and Long will stay with you long after you’ve finished it, at least that’s true for me.  This book is not light and fluffy, it’s not rainbows and unicorns, and if that’s what you’re looking for, this might be the wrong fit for you. But if read to feel real emotions, if you read because you appreciate the journey as much as the destination, if you read because sometimes you need to get lost in someone else’s life for awhile, then this book will blow you away. When the last book in the series comes out, I have a feeling it will be bitter sweet. I can not wait for the rest of Rob and Evie’s journey and I desperately anticipate their HEA. I know when they get there, no other couple will ever have deserved it more. But I also know, when I turn to the last page, I will be so grateful for the journey and so sad for the end of the ride.

About the Author

Kata lives near Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and three children. When she isn’t writing or rewriting or editing or staring at the infuriating blinking cursor on her screen, she’s reading. A self-proclaimed binge-reader who has issues with moderation, she struggles to wear all the necessary hats of wife, mother, reader, writer, chef, maid, chauffeur, nurse on any given day. Caffeine, wine, and natural insomnia are constant bolsters in the pursuit of getting everything done.

She has a degree in Linguistics and is, in fact, fluent in several American English dialects including Pittsburghese and sarcasm. She’s eternally grateful to be a part of the last generation to go through college without social media documenting the entire ordeal.

A few of her favorite things are books (duh), chocolate, cats, and gardening. Her biggest guilty pleasure is 90s rap and R&B (which she has to listen to when the kids aren’t around).

About MORE THAN A FEELING:

From the award-winning author of TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT comes the final story in her red-hot Rock Star Romance series, about a loner rocker finding his perfect duet.

Daisy Charbonneau’s in trouble. The talent she hired for her resort’s annual Huckleberry Festival just bailed on her, and she’s desperate to find a replacement act. Luck turns her way when she discovers her high school crush is back in town—and he happens to be a rock star.

From beginning to end, Erika Kelly’s Rock Star Romance series has been a favorite of mine, and More Than A Feeling keeps that tradition going with a great end to a wonderful series. (Honestly, I’m really pretty sad it’s over). Cooper was a favorite of mine from the very beginning and getting to see him step into the limelight for a romance of his own was worth the wait.

I’m a fool for a good second chance romance and Cooper and Daisy have the perfect kind. Friends from High School, they both considered each other the one that got away (or more like the one that they never had a chance with). They have chemistry from the moment they bump into each other again and discover they can both help each other. Cooper is a great character (second in my heart only to Slater). He’s a good guy, who had it tough as a kid and never really got past all his baggage. Daisy is a wonderful female lead, strong, determined, empowered and always trying to make things better for the people around her.

Here’s the thing, I don’t think anybody writes a 3rd person novel better than Erika Kelly, and I ADORE 3rd person, when it’s done right. I know so many readers are conditioned to think they won’t like it, I promise you…read this book anyway. This story will suck you in, plop you right down in Snowberry and make you believe you live there. The characters are real and multi-layered and supported by a full cast of engaging friends and relatives.

And last but not least, Blue Fire!!! Getting to visit these characters I love one last time is bittersweet. The glimpse Erika gives us in to the lives of my favorite rock band brought tears to my eyes. I know this is the last book in the series (poor Ben) but I sincerely hope this isn’t the last we hear from my favorite rockers.

 Excerpt

Closing her eyes, Daisy bit into the crunchy drizzle, her teeth sinking through the buttery rich goodness of the bread. Oh, dear God. Her mom made the world’s best cinnamon rolls. With a sigh, she looked up to find someone heading toward her on the path.

Of course her childhood crush would show up the moment she’d stuffed her mouth full of pastry. Leaning against the hood of her car, Daisy chewed quickly—which sucked because, basically, time should stand still while savoring her mom’s desserts.

But Cooper wasn’t looking at her. Scowling at his phone, he stopped on the path, fingers furiously typing. Was he dealing with his mom?

Or maybe a girlfriend. Instantly her skin tightened, and her heart thudded. If Cooper had a girlfriend…God. Last night she’d gone on and on about how much he’d meant to her.

She looked away, mortification crashing through her system.

First, she’d bumped into him wearing waders and a fishing hat, and then she’d forced him to go out with her. Awesome.

He couldn’t have been clearer that he didn’t want to spend the day with her, but she’d gone and made an offer she knew he couldn’t turn down. Not if he wanted to get his mom’s house built and get himself back on tour.

Feeling a little sick to her stomach, she licked the sticky drizzle off her fingers and shoved the treat back into the bag.

As he paused on the path, thumbs working over the phone’s keypad, she took in his powerful physique. A white T-shirt strained across broad shoulders, hugging his thickly rounded biceps, and worn blue jeans cupped his hard, muscular thighs.

The colorful ink covering his body made him look like a total badass. She’d noticed a strange symbol on his inner wrist and a cartoon image on his forearm of a pin-up girl holding a barbell, a sexy slash of red for her lips.

The man he’d grown into made her soul wake up, and God, she couldn’t even remember the last time she’d felt this kind of fluttery attraction for a guy.

As if he felt someone watching him, he looked up sharply and found her. The worry lines eased. But he didn’t smile. “Hey.”

She pushed off her car. “You ready?” Forced or not, her plan was good for both of them. She was sticking to it.

EXCERPT:

He blocked her way but didn’t budge. Wet hair hung around her face, trickles of water sliding down her shoulders and disappearing into the towel. She looked so pretty, so sweet.

Caught in that magnetic force that always bound them together, neither one made a move. His hands fisted to keep from touching her. He wanted…what did it matter what he wanted?

And then she smiled, breaking the tension. She reached around him for her doorknob.

His heart pounded, his nerves vibrated. He wanted to say something to keep her, but he couldn’t keep her. He couldn’t have her at all.

Her door opened, and she stepped inside. She’d shut him out in one second, and he’d be stuck with Brittany, Todd, Joe, and Kevin for the night. For all the nights of his college life. And then he’d go home to his Colorado friends and sink back into the sameness, the ugliness of that life.

And this girl? She was like a portal to a whole different world. Fresh, clean, pure.

He could feel her warm body curving along his under the covers, smell her subtle, sweet scent, see the look in her eyes in the darkness just before they fell asleep—the soundest sleep he’d ever had in his life—and he wanted that. Wanted it so badly his body throbbed with it.

Kristys Review (2)5 1_2 Star Review

It took took me a good solid year to get Erika to share Dylan and Nicole with me. I adore the way she tells a story and I had already finished all of her published books. So when I found out she had these two finished manuscripts collecting dust, I begged and I pleaded to no avail. Then one day I got a “Well maybe, let me think about it.” So I dropped it…NOT. And finally Mine for Now showed up in my inbox.

So on a Sunday night I started reading and I stayed up until 3am. Then after 4 hours of sleep my alarm went off and I thought “one more chapter and I’ll get read for work.” Well…one turned into four, turned into blowing off work for an entire day because I couldn’t put it down. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN.

Once again, Erika gave me a story I could fall in love with. She gave me beautiful, damaged, flawed characters who struggle to overcome their past and hope for a better future. She gave me real life conflicts and true, honest situations. She gave me people I could related to feeling emotions every single person can identify with. She made me feel all of the emotions without fake conflict or phony set-ups.

Dylan is magnificent. He is a beautiful boy inside and out and he is a born caregiver when it comes to the important people in his life. When he meets Nicole he quickly realizes she might be at the top of that list. Watching him struggle to keep her clear of his train-wreak of a mother and what he believes is his dead end future is just heart-wrenching. You just can’t help but love him and pull for him. Even when he was making me angry, I still felt his anguish. When Dylan loves he loves big and completely… until it hurts.

One thing Erika does better than almost anybody is give you a female character you can love and admire. I adore Nicole. She is sweet and adorable in her slightly nerdy quirkiness. But more than that, she sets a great example. She is strong and determined and when she gets knocked down, she gets up again. Plus she’s incredibly caring. But my very favorite thing about her is she doesn’t settle. She is unwilling to accept less than she deserves. No matter how much she cares for Dylan, she knows that until he can put himself first, he`ll never be able to give her the love she deserves. It’s empowering watching her take care of herself, not enough woman do that these days.

I loved this book. Dylan shot immediately to my BBF top ten and Nicole is easily one of my very favorite female characters. Their story is not only beautifully written and tremendously fulfilling, but it’s also lush and completely fleshed out with backstory and a full cast of wonderful supporting characters. I hope someday we get their stories too.

This book had me laughing loudly, it had me crying hard. I swooned big time, I fell in love, I had my heart broken, then I fell in love all over again. I’ve read this one twice already and honestly, just writing this review makes me want to read it again. Easily in my top 5 reads of 2016.

Eva Papageorgiou has one goal: to make it through her senior year of high school unseen and unscathed. But when her strategy to stay out of the limelight is derailed by rampant rumors, she’s forced to change tactics. Her new game plan is to keep everyone at arm’s length. Especially boys. So when she’s partnered up in class with the hot as hell varsity quarterback, she pushes and pushes.

Until he pushes back.

Rob Falls just wants to fit in. With his teammates, with his friends, with everyone. His image as the quintessential jock makes him feel like a fraud. Especially since it’s the only reason all the girls at school want him, except the one girl he dreams about. She wants nothing to do with him. When he’s forced to tutor the class pariah, he realizes it’s time to get in the game instead of standing on the sidelines.

She’s going to help him get exactly what he wants, whether she knows it or not.

Review

Kristys Review (2)6 Stars

Every once in a while you read a book where you just live and breathe the characters. A book where you love them so much you think about their story long after you’re done reading. A story were the characters resonate with you so powerfully you don’t want to let them go. That’s how I feel about First and Goal. I adored it. I have Rob and Evie playlists because so many songs have me reliving their story. I have a ton of highlights, a boat load of bookmarked pages because I keep going back to re-read my favorite parts over and over. It’s that kind of book.

The writing is beautiful, intelligent, emotional and eloquent. The emotions are realistic and organic. Nothing feels false or fake. Rob and Evie are real, imperfect, exceptional and ordinary all at the same time. They are somehow both people you know and people you’ve never met before all rolled into one. Rob Falls will make you fall head over heels in love with him. He is just a beautiful boy inside and out and he immediately headed to the top of my BBF favorites list. You just need to meet him. And Evie…she is an extraordinary character. She is nothing like she appears to be when you first meet her. She is hard shell protecting a damaged heart. So real and relatable. Honestly, she’s half the women I know and watching her evolution is spectacular. I’ve always said believable character evolution is the mark of a great writer and Kata nails it.

This book literally made me laugh out loud. It made me smile and cringe and cheer and groan. This book made me bawl my damn eyes out. It made me lose sleep and blow off work and all kinds of things that should have pissed me off but instead made me deliriously happy.

Author Info

Kata lives in the greater Pittsburgh, PA region with her husband and three children. When she isn’t writing or rewriting or editing or staring at the infuriating blinking cursor on her screen, she’s reading. This tends to be a point of contention with the aforementioned family since Kata can’t put a book down once she reads the first line. It’s all or nothing in a matter of hours. Binge reading tends to be detrimental to domestic goddess/supermom duties.

She loves long walks on the beach, romantic candlelight dinners, and holding hands. Just kidding. Her true loves are football, steak and Buffalo wings, the occasional blizzard, bonfires with friends and family, and learning new things.

If you’d like to suggest items for her bucket list, you can reach her here. (Disclaimer: she suffers from acrophobia.)

Good times didn’t last forever. While Beth Hart had enjoyed being the sometimes girlfriend of Max Reynolds—the hot bass player for Black Addiction—she knew it would never be more than a casual fling. He was destined for greatness, and she cared too much to hold him back. So, before she lost her heart and her sanity, she said goodbye to the Bronx, moved to Manhattan and left her party-girl days in the past—along with Max.

Nothing made Max happier than being a success in his own right. And in the last few years, he and his band had well and truly earned it. Moving to the city and enjoying the spoils of his new lifestyle made perfect sense, and he loved his new address. It wasn’t his new huge penthouse apartment that got him excited; it was his new neighbor. The one girl he regretted letting go—Beth.

He wanted her back and would do anything to make it happen. Hopefully it wasn’t too late.

3 3_4 Stars

So I have been a vocal fan of T.Gephart since I discovered High Strung a while back (yes my Dan Evans addiction is still in full force.) And when the Power Station ended I jumped right onto the Black Addiction bandwagon.  Rusty was first and I loved him, then came Joey (hehe I said came…Joey would appreciate that) and I LOVED him. And last but not least we have Max.

Max is a great guy, sweet, protective and determined….all the good stuff. Beth is great too. She’s completely independent, smart, and very chill. Their relationship for years has been off again on again, but they always remained friends. But they’ve lost touch for a long time now and neither is thinking about the other when they suddenly find themselves face to face. Turns out they really suck at staying away from each other.

I liked this book. It was sweet and cute and Max was definitely swoonworthy. It was nice to see the band again and to watch Max get his happy ending (Literally and figuratively). This book is a quick, fun, slightly slapstick read. It’s not covering any new territory, you aren’t going to cry or scream or curse. Very low angst. What you are going to get is a sweet romance and a fitting end to a really lovable series. Definitely worth the read especially for Black Addiction fans.

Excerpt

Prologue – Beth
Then

It was the calm before the storm.
Neither of us had spoken about it last night, both too caught up in each other to care what it all meant. He was irresistible and I saw no reason to fight the urge. No matter how many times we drifted apart, we always seemed to end up back together. Maybe it was sheer magnetism, maybe it was his amazing smile? Or maybe it was his delicious well-toned body that did amazing things to mine? It could have been any of those reasons, but mostly it was because of the way he made me feel.
Happy.
Some of my best memories featured the man sleeping soundly beside me. And it wasn’t even about the sex, although . . . yeah, his talents weren’t only restricted to the stage. There was just something about him. Something bigger than what he already was, and I knew living in the Bronx and working at Staples wasn’t his destiny.
Sadly, neither was I.
International rock sensation Power Station had seen it too, signing up Black Addiction—Max’s band—to be their support act for a huge stadium tour. They’d already wowed the crowds at Madison Square Garden, the other crowds would follow too and then the world would see what I already knew.
Max Reynolds was a rock star.
We’d taken a break from each other around three months ago. No messy break up, no drama—just our lives taking us in different directions. It wasn’t a new thing for us, and in some ways, it just worked. But last night wasn’t us getting back together; last night was something else entirely.
His eyes were shut tight as he slept, completely unaware as I watched him. His perfect lips parted just slightly as the air whistled past. And I knew this would be the last time we could do this; at some point we’d stop the revolving door.
“Hey.” He slid open an eye, his trademark panty-melting grin not far behind. “You’re awake. Feeling okay?”
“Yep, I know better than to try and keep up with you and your band.” I couldn’t help but smile back. “How about you? You had a pretty serious commitment with that bottle of Jäger.” Don’t know why I asked; I’d never seen him rocking the next morning regret like most of us did.
“Never felt better.” He smirked, his fingers trailing up my side, tickling my skin until they reached my breast. His talented fingers palmed me, hinting that he had other things on his mind other than his lack of hangover. “And my only commitment last night was pleasing you. So, tell me . . . how did I do?”
God, he was smooth.
He had this uncanny ability to make you feel like you were the only woman in the room, like nothing else mattered, and even if I knew it was temporary, I loved it.
“I think you got all the confirmation you needed last night.” I grinned as I nestled into his side. “If you want your ego stroked, you’ll have to go elsewhere.”
“That’s not what I want you to stroke, Beth,” he whispered into my ear, his voice loaded with suggestion.
“I should probably go.” It’s not that I didn’t want to stay, but it didn’t take a rocket scientist to know where this would end up. Sleep was not part of that equation.
“Why? Stay in bed with me.” His muscular, inked arms caged me against his body, the heat between us having nothing to do with the temperature in the room. “I’m almost positive you won’t regret it.”
I wouldn’t regret it.
I never would.
But in my heart I knew that this was the end of the road for the two of us. And as much as I wanted to keep going by his side, he had to walk it alone. How much longer could I stay? A week, a month, a year? He needed to be single. Free to do whatever he wanted to do when that spotlight finally hit him and not wonder if it would have been different without a girlfriend ball-and-chain. I wouldn’t be the source of anyone’s regrets, not least someone as special as Max. He was on the cusp of something great, and I cared too much to hold him back.
“You need sleep, you have a show tonight.” My hands moved over his chest. “We both know if I stay, there will be no sleep.” I tried in vain to free myself from his arm prison, my attempt laughable as he pulled me closer.
“Sleep’s overrated.” The words vibrated against my ear as I closed my eyes and remembered the moment. The one that would be the last time in his arms.
“You might not be dealing with a hangover, but you can’t outrun fatigue. Sleep and I’ll see you when you get back in town.”
It was a lie, an easy one to tell, knowing that when he came back things would be different. We would be different, and I think deep down he knew it was goodbye.
“Beth.” His lips pressed against the back of my neck, my short black hair offering me little protection as his hot breath defied logic and gave me goose bumps. “We’ll always end up like this, you and me.”
Not always, not anymore.
I didn’t dare say it. More because I didn’t want to hear it even though I knew it was the right thing to do.
“You going to let me go?” I asked, his arms showing no sign of releasing me
“For now.” He kissed my neck before loosening his hold and allowing me to sit up.
“You’re going to do great on this tour; this is what you’ve been waiting for.” I didn’t have to even force the smile on my face, I was genuinely happy for him. “Your life is about to change.”
“Whatever happens, happens.” His arms flexed and anchored at the back of his neck. “I’m still going to be me, that won’t ever change.”
“Good.” I fished my T-shirt from the edge of the bed and threw it over my head. “And I’ll be your biggest fan.” It was an easy promise to make; being supportive was something that I planned to continue. And something I could do even if it wasn’t by his side.
“Just promise you won’t get all weird and start stealing my underwear to sell on eBay.” He watched me as I slid on my own and grabbed my jeans from the floor.
“So, I should put back the pair I have stuffed into my purse?” I turned back to face him as I pulled up my jeans, batting my eyes seductively for effect.
I hadn’t actually stolen a pair of his boxer briefs, but it was easier than the inevitable so-this-is-where-it-ends that needed to happen.
“Call me, Beth.” He didn’t hesitate, his eyes looking directly into mine. It was as if he already knew that I probably wouldn’t but wouldn’t push the issue either. It was a weird stalemate, so much left unsaid, but all those words not spoken completely understood.
“See ya, Max.” I allowed myself one last look at him before scooping up my shoes and shuffling out of the room. The door closed behind me giving me a resting place for a second before I walked out of his house.
We both needed this. It wasn’t just for him; this was for me too. Together neither of us would reach our full potential, and we owed each other that. I was more than just a bass player’s girlfriend. I was more than a girl with tattoos, funky hair and a short skirt. If I stayed . . . he was too easy to fall in love with.
There was no sadness when I left; my heart wasn’t breaking. I was excited about what the future held for both of us and while I’d miss him, someday we would both be thankful.
In time we would both move on, and hopefully when he thought of me, he’d remember good things.
I would always, when I thought of him.

Author Bio

T Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.T’s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have traveled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley, the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident and who didn’t lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. T set herself the challenge to write something that was interesting, compelling and yet easy enough to read that was still enjoyable. Pulling from her own past “colorful” experiences and the amazing personalities she has surrounded herself with, she had no shortage of inspiration. With a strong slant on erotic fiction, her core characters are empowered women who don’t have to sacrifice their femininity. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn’t let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colorful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey – she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

Kristys Review (2)3 3_4 StarsI adore Erika Kelly’s books and her Rock Star Romance is one of my very favorite.  The boys (and girls) of the Blue Fire family are just magnificent and getting back into their world is always a great escape.  This book put me right back where I wanted to be, on Violet’s farm and with the boys in the studio.  This time Mimi is front and center.  She’s business oriented and trying to get her dad to give her the chance she’s worked her entire life for.  When he seems intent on setting up more hoops for her to jump through, she decides to explore another avenue to success. A avenue that puts her on Calix Bourbon’s doorstep.

Calix is a session musician and the fill in keyboard player for Blue Fire, and so far he seems like the perfect fit.  But with a home life in turmoil a heavy weight on his shoulders and too much responsibility for one man, Calix can’t commit to anyone, not Blue Fire, not a relationship, not even to himself.  But the pull of his attraction to Mimi is causing him all kinds of trouble he wasn’t ready for.

As always, Erika’s writing is spectacular.  She sucks you in and paints a picture like no one else.  Everything is solid here, the writing, the complex storyline, the relationships. Mimi is a great character…smart, artistic, determined and alternately sure of her self and insecure, you know, just like most of us.  Calix is the strong silent type, a man of few words and here is the only place I got hung up in this book.  I had trouble connecting with Calix, I think his strong silent routine was just a little to silent for me.  Maybe I like my boys a little bit more exposed than Calix was.  Just when I would start to fall for him he would pull back.

And once again, ALL of your favorite characters are back in full force, Emmie and Slater, Derek and Violet…even Ben and Cooper.  All pitching it to fill in a beautiful background tapestry for the book.

Overall, it’s still a great read and believe me when I tell you I CAN NOT WAIT for the next book (bring on Cooper).  The Blue Fire family is one of my favorite places to be.

Synopsis:
The New York Times bestselling hockey series featuring the Carolina Cold Fury continues as the team’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.

Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.

Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.

Every once in a while you read a book that just feels perfect.  It’s exactly what you’re looking for at exactly the right time and it just ticks all your boxes and gives you that warm satisfied sense of peace.  I don’t know if I was jonesing for a GREAT sports book or a WONDERFUL romance or an AMAZING new book boyfriend…..but I definitely got all three.

I’ve read all of the Cold Fury books and I’ve enjoyed them all, but let’s be honest…we all have our favorites.  I have friends who love Alex and others who love Garrett and one or two that fell for Ryker.  But mine has always been Zack, then again I’m a sucker for a little heartbreak (OK a lot of heartbreak in that one).  This book however…this one really made me question my loyalty to poor Zack because Hawke is freaking amazing.  I simply adored him.  I loved how he handles things, I loved who he is as a man, I loved his sense of humor….I just LOVED him.  I have to admit, I was skeptical about them bringing in a brand new Cold Fury player, but I can acknowledge when I’m wrong.  I was SO wrong.

Vale is a pretty awesome character too.  She’s strong and determined and independent.  I completely understood and believed her struggle to be a grown up, to do the right thing and to navigate her way through a lot of confusing and upsetting thing that have been thrown her way.  There were times I wanted to grab her shoulders and shake her and times I wanted to cry for her and tell her it was going to be ok.

God, I just can’t get enough of good second chance romances and this is one of my favorites.  This book is just so heartfelt, at times both incredibly sad and remarkable uplifting.  I have never wanted to believe in true love and meant to be more.  Sawyer Bennett just got everything right in this one.

Wicked Lust (The Wicked Horse Series Book #2)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: January 5, 2016

Synopsis:

Cain Bonham is as big and bad as they come. After serving in the Marines, he’s returned home to Wyoming and now works as head of security at the exclusive sex club, The Wicked Horse. His job is to protect not only the patrons, but to zealously guard the secret existence of the club itself.

Sloane Preston is all about discovering secrets. As an undercover reporter, she’s determined to reveal the truth behind the facade of The Wicked Horse and expose it for all the world to see. She just didn’t count on her pathway into the club coming at the hands of one gorgeously scarred and bad ass bouncer who manages to easily possess her body and soul.

While Cain’s not looking for anyone to catch his eye, Sloane did it all the same, and he’s not bemoaning the fact that she’s as wickedly kinky as he is. As both get caught up in the sinful fantasies that only The Wicked Horse can create, secrets and loyalties will be tested and hearts will risk being broken.

**Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just… a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.

Kristys Review (2)

3 StarsI want to start off by saying I’m a big fan of Sawyer Bennett.  I really love her Cold Fury Hockey series and I was really excited when I heard about the Wicked Horse series because…well….a great writer and Sex Club. Enough said.

The first book, Wicked Fall was pretty good.  I liked the characters and the story line.  The sex was pretty hot, not quite erotica, but not bad either. Woolf was hot and Bridger??? HELLO I really wanted more of that guy. So I went into Wicked Lust with high hopes. Maybe a little too high.  I didn’t really like these characters, mainly because I felt like I didn’t know them at all.  The first several chapters (half of the book) has virtually nothing going on except sex.  Now I like a good sex scene (or ten) as much as the next reader (actually more than most) but I need to know something about the characters. I felt no connection between them or to them.  At one point my inner dialogue actually became “Oh look, what a surprise, they’re having sex again.”

Then the book gets kinky (sort of, I mean it tries to) but it just seemed too vanilla to be smut, yet the premise (plot) under which the sex unfolds seems hard to believe for me, forced maybe (no that’s not a pun).  Then Bridger enters the picture (did I mention I have a thing for him) and even he was a little bit of a let down.

Then…..

THEN the plot starts to pick up and I was kind of feeling it for a while.  Bridger stepped up to the plate and made the story interesting (in ways not involving his member).  The main character’s start to show some personality, they have a little back ground.  I started to feel sucked in a little, but we are talking 3/4 of the way into the book.  And then, I don’t know, it kind of fell apart for me again.  Forced drama, decisions that made you want to slap the characters.  Overall, I just never really got into this book.  I’m still holding out hope that Bridger will get a book at some point but, until then I’m not sure I will read the other books in this series.  Honestly this one was just barely 3 stars for me.

He knows how to score, on and off the ice

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she’s going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over

Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.

Kristys Review (2)

5 Star ReviewThe Deal was one of my favorite books of 2015 so I had extremely high hopes for The Score, especially considering that Dean was kind of an ass in the previous books and in all honesty….. I really have a thing for cocky, womanizing asses.  I thought it was entirely possible that I would love Dean.  I have never been so happy to be wrong. I didn’t love Dean…I adored him. I couldn’t get enough of him. He was everything I wanted him to be and then he was even better than that.  He was so damn funny and cocky and horny, but he was also sweet and protective and sincere and completely comfortable in his own very impressive skin.  Turns out he also has a big old heart too……who knew?

I know much was made about who Dean should be paired with in this book and perhaps Allie wasn’t the obvious choice, but Oh My God was she the right choice.  I adored Allie and I don’t walk away from a lot of books in love with the female lead, so I’m always so damn excited when I do.  Allie was funny, Allie was cool.  She was fun and independent and wonderful at learning how to go with the flow that was Dean.

There was a lot of unexpected in this book.  I don’t want to make it sound like it’s all sunshine and roses in this book.  Dean and Allie are both faced with some seriously intense issues that life throws at them and watching them, both as individuals and as a couple, cope and navigate is such a wonderful and gut wrenching experience.  The people they become are so vastly different from the people they are when they first get together and the journey from beginning to end is remarkable.

I loved this book….. beginning, middle and end.  It absolutely lives up to the hype.  Dean is so worth the wait !!!!!!
