Synopsis

From New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Douglas, comes the latest New Adult romance of love, hate, and everything in between…

“We were perfect together. Until we met.”

Misha

I can’t help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…

And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F*ck it. I need to meet her.

I just don’t expect to hate what I find.

Ryen

He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his phone number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.

*Punk 57 is a stand alone New Adult romance. It is suitable for ages 18+.

Kristys Review (2)4 1_2 Star ReviewWhen a Penelope Douglas book hits my kindle I’m like a kid on Christmas morning….excited, impatient and a little worried that I might be disappointed. Luckily this author NEVER disappoints.  I could not put this book down, I just wanted real life to disappear so I sink into this world and never come out. It had everything I love in a book: angst, humor, emotion, passion and that sense that something big is just around the corner.

I loved Misha, he was messed up perfection. He was the good guy wrapped in the bad boy tattoos. He was sweet and sour and salty in all of the best ways. Ryen was a more challenging character to fall for. She was everything I loved and hated about high school. Somehow she was the girl you hated and the girl you were all rolled up together. She was a character very few writers could pull off properly and Penelope hit the mark perfectly.  And once again, Penelope writes a book about high school characters that are perfectly teenage, yet completely relatable to readers of any age. OH…

And this book was smoking hot too.

The one and only reason this book wasn’t a 5 star read of me was that the ending came a little too quickly. I love resolution in the books I read, but I thought maybe the last 1/4 of the book threw a little too much at me too fast. I guess I just wanted time to savor some of the resolutions a little bit more.

I would say the true test of a book is how long it stays with you after you turn the last page. This book has not left the front of my kindle carousel. I have gone back and read passage after passage. I’ve look up scenes, bookmarked and highlighted. Like everything Penelope Douglas writes, I will read this over and over and then buy the audiobook when it comes out so I can listen to it too!!!

4 3_4 Stars

I was twelve when a stranger at a train station taught me the meaning of ugly. He forced himself on me and threatened to kill my family if I told.

I stayed silent and the ugliness grew.

Now, that word rolls in film clips through my mind. All I’ve done since my best friend, Keyon Arias, left town is cement how ugly I am. Ugly on the inside—deep down to my core. On the outside… I am a Vixen. I flash men a smile and make them moan out pleasure I control.

Not them. Never them.

After five years of being away, my beautiful boy has come back to town for his father’s masquerade ball. He’s different. Hard muscle supersedes the skin and bone of his once boyish frame. One thing hasn’t changed though: the murderous look in his eyes when he slaughters his opponents. In the ring, I see the bullied boy, all grown up, dominating in ways he couldn’t in high school.

He’s the mayor’s son. The rising MMA fighter. The beautiful one.

I’m not the Paislee Cain of before, not the sweet girl he once knew, the one who chased away his bullies. I’m the town slut. The dirty girl whose shame will never fade no matter how many men I use. He’d disown what I’ve become.

Because beautiful can never love ugly.

Kristys Review (2)4 3_4 StarsSunniva Dee just does not write a book like anyone else.

It’s like she refuses to be bound by conventional rules, plot expectations, accepted character types and sometimes even by the constructs of the English language and that, my friend, is a phenomenally good thing.  Her books have a cadence all their own. A rhythm and a style that is completely and uniquely Sunniva.  To be honest, it always takes me a few chapters to settle into one of her books, but once I’m in her groove, I am so invested, so enthralled and so completely sucked in to her characters and the emotions she puts down on every page.  A Sunniva Dee book is a whirlwind of emotion, joy and tension, heartbreak and exhilaration, love, lust, despair and triumph.

This book is spectacular!!  The best book she’s written yet and she has a pretty impressive catalogue.

I freaking ADORED this book.

Paislee and Keyon are unlike anything I’ve read before. These characters are so complex, so unconventional and so completely refreshing and realistic.  I loved them both, my heart broke for them both, I rooted for them both to find their way to success and to happiness.  Never have two characters deserved it more.  Paislee, I can honestly say,  is unlike any other heroine I have ever read before and she is exactly that…a heroine. She’s a survivor and she completely owns her choices and her consequences, but she’s also a savior in her own rite and slaying her personal demons the only way she knows how.  Keyon is magnificent in every way you can image.  He is a selfless hero, fierce and destructive while nurturing and romantic. But he also has his own set of demons to slay and sometimes facing your demons is the hardest part.

The emotions this book pulled out of me are exactly the reasons I read.  My heart swelled with love and wonder, broke with pain and fear, raced with anticipation and trepidation, and stuttered  with passion and redemption.  I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I swooned and I could not have loved it more.

EXCERPT:

I’ve been on a one-track rail to landing Paislee in my bed since she got off the plane. Not that it’s been planned, but I convinced her that Pizza Pazza in Tampa is better than Mamma Lucia’s in Calceth. I told her about Simon during dinner, one thing led to another, and here I am unlocking the door to my duplex and letting her enter first.

She hasn’t commented on how we took my car from her hotel, how she’s basically dependent on me and my whims. But hey, I’m fucked too; it wasn’t my choice to have someone fill my head, and I didn’t ask that person to come to Florida.

We haven’t talked about tomorrow’s schedule, but I’m going to the rich dude’s house with her. He could be a total freak for all I know, so she’s not facing him alone.

“Oooh,” she whispers through a reverent puff of air like she’s never seen a cat before. Simon’s playing it up too, slinking around the corner with all the grace in the universe, stroking the doorjamb with a hip before he meanders over to us. “He’s soooo beautiful.”

“He’s just a regular old black street cat,” I say, but by the wink she shoots me, she doesn’t buy it. She read me back when too. “’Kay, fine: Simon’s awesome. Straight up the best pelt ever.”

“Pelt? You ass,” she giggles as she pets him from the top of his head and down the length of his body to his tail. Simon lifts it, happy. Any minute now, he’ll crank the volume on his purr-machine.

“Wow, he purrs loud.”

And there. For a cat, he’s being unexpectedly predictable.

“He loves the ladies,” I say, which makes her giggle more. I love to make her giggle. When she stands up again, I pull her in with one arm, fingers splayed across her spine. Firm breasts press against me, and I groan a little.

She puffs another laugh, all Simon’s fault. He’s gotten to the part of the agenda where he’s going to cramp my style. His purrs reach us from the floor, and he’s scissoring in and out between both of our legs.

“Never mind him. Look at me,” I whisper. Let my thumb and forefinger slide over her chin. The amusement recedes from her eyes when she sees that I mean business. I’m hardening. She yelps. Then she laughs out loud.

“Simon, quit it!” I say, exasperated, and bend to unhook his claws from the fabric over her knees. “I’m sorry. You see how it is now, right?
Simon’s the ass in this house. I should sell him to the highest bidder. Fifty cents flat will do. Come to think of it—I’ve got fifty cents in my pocket,” I say, kissing her down the corridor. “I could pay someone to take him. ‘Perfectly good cat with a year’s worth of free cat food.’”

Obviously, I’m digging my own grave here. There’s no hot lovemaking when your girl’s laughing so hard she’s about to pee herself.

Blurred LinesBLURRED LINES

Lauren Layne
Releasing Aug 25th, 2015
Loveswept
In a novel that’s perfect for fans of Abbi Glines and Jessica Sorensen, USA Today bestselling author Lauren Layne delivers a sexy take on the timeless question: Can a guy and a girl really be “just friends”?
When Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they  happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.
The arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.

Kristys review5 Star ReviewI should start out by saying that the entire “Best Friends” to lovers trope is one of my absolute favorite so when I find a book by one of my favorite authors that has that theme I’m excited before I even open the book.  Needless to say, my hopes were high for this one…what I definitely need to say is Blurred Lines did not disappoint, it exceeded.  What this book did better than almost any other book I can think of is establish a truly believable friendship between the two main characters.  I completely bought that Ben and Parker had been best buddies and living together as such for 6 years and that they were nothing more than friends for that time.  That’s actually a pretty intelligent set up that allows for this and the banter and interactions between the two are portrayed to perfection.

I really loved both lead characters…the fact that they were just real people was such a refreshing change.  They had normal jobs and normal cars and friends and family and a little 2 bedroom house they shared.  I think the fact that they felt like people I might actually know added so much to the story.  (No MMA fighters, rock stars or billionaires in this book).  Ben was a very caring likable guy who has no desire to settle for just one girl, resulting in his bedroom having a revolving door of one night stands, which Parker finds amusing to say the least.  Parker is happily in a 5 year committed relationship with a somewhat workaholicic boyfriend who completely respects her friendship with Ben.  The banter and interplay between Ben and Parker is wonderful.  Sometimes they seem like an old married couple, sometimes they’re goofy, always they’re there for each other….it’s perfect…until Parker gets dumped.  Then everything changes…..

This book is so emotional too.  It’s one of those books where your breath catches and you get butterflies in your stomach like it’s your first kiss instead of theirs.  It was hot and sexy and sweet.  I laughed and shrieked and cried, exactly what I want from a book.

Since I don’t do spoilers (I mean Parker getting dumped IS on the back of the book) I just want to say that for me, Lauren Layne is one of the best authors writing today and I was reminded of that as I read this book.  I could NOT put it down.  I started it at midnight and finished it before I left for work in the morning, sleep be damned…I had to know what happened.  Ok…I know this is corny…but a Lauren Layne book for me feels like home.  I can’t explain that exactly, but I thought it several times while I was reading.  I find her books comforting and comfortable, relaxing and engaging without being stressful or causing unnecessary angst.  I just feel good when I’m reading them…like I’m in my favorite pajamas under a nice warm blanket kind of good.

Excerpt 4

Most of the time, having a girl for a best friend is awesome.

Among the highlights:

(1) My color-blind self never has to worry about going out the door looking like a sad clown.

(2) The Brita water filter is always replaced on time.

(3) Parker actually likes doing laundry for fun, and she only complains when I sneak my stuff in with hers about 30 percent of the time.

Oh, and as this morning’s adventure displayed, she’s an excellent excuse when a person needs to rid himself of clingy one-night stands.

But then there are the not-so-great parts. Like when she’s spent thirty-five minutes looking at lamps.

“Just get that one,” I say, lifting my arm to point at a random floor lamp as the noisy, child-filled scariness that is IKEA threatens to choke me.

She barely glances at the one I’ve selected. “It looks like a uterus.”

“What the fuck does a uterus look like?”

“Like that lamp. And honestly, for as much time as you spend rummaging around in women’s panties, you really should get familiar with their parts.”

“Isn’t the uterus the—” I break off, looking for the right word to describe the random memories from eighth-grade sex-ed class.

Parker lifts her eyebrows. “The baby cave?”

Like any normal guy would, I wince. “Christ. Why would I need to know about that? I use a condom.”

“Several of them, judging from the state of your bedroom,” she says, tilting her head to study the lime green lamp shade in her hands. “Do you think this would clash with my bedspread?”

“You’re asking the color-blind guy? Like I have any clue what color your bedspread is.”

“Seriously? Don’t act like you’ve never seen it. Two nights ago you flopped onto my bed in your sweaty gym clothes and it took me two washes to remove the man stank.”

I shake my head. “Poor Lance. Do you make him wear a plastic bag when you guys hook up so he doesn’t get his man stank on your sheets?”

“Lance doesn’t have man stank.”

I frown. “Hold up. If I have man stank, Lance has man stank.”

“No.”

I open my mouth to argue, but instead I shrug. That’s another thing you learn having a girl best friend. You pick your battles.

“You have two more minutes to pick your lamp,” I say. “I’m starving.”

Parker adjusts her purse strap on her shoulder. “Oh, I’m not buying a lamp. I was just browsing.”

I inhale deeply to rein in my women suck rampage when I catch her smirk.

“Oh, I get it,” I say as we move toward the end of the store where we’ll pick up my dresser. “This is payback. You’re mad because I made up that story about you having a creepy doll collection.”

“Actually, it was more punishment for destroying the house rules. I’m totally laminating them next time.”

“Or you could just create an online version and keep them in the cloud like normal people born after 1980.”

I see a little lightbulb go on in her head and almost regret giving her the idea. Not that it matters much. I’ve never really followed her fussy rules anyway, although for the most part I try to not be too much of a dick. The towel incident this morning notwithstanding, it’s like I said, Parker loves laundry. I knew she had extra clean ones stashed away.

“Seriously, don’t get that color finish,” she says, shaking her head at the dresser box I’m about to pull off the shelf.

“Wood is wood,” I say with a shrug, starting to maneuver the huge box onto our flat cart.

“No, there’s old-man wood and there’s modern wood.”

I raise my eyebrows. “Old-man wood, huh? You and your kinky fetishes. Do you make the dolls watch?”

She ignores me, and uses her hip to push the box I’d started to move back onto its shelf. “That one.” She points.

“Espresso?” I ask, reading the label.

But Parker is now typing away on her phone. I shrug, pushing her out of the way so I can get at the box she indicated.

“How about tacos?” she asks, glancing up briefly from her phone.

“I just had Mexican last night,” I say through a grunt as I move the box into position.

“You said I could pick.” She gives me a challenging look, her goldish brown eyes practically daring me to argue with her.

“If it was a unilateral decision, why’d you even ask?”

“Unilateral. Good word. And it was a test. You passed,” she says, trotting to catch up with me as she replaces her phone in her purse. “So how did you and Airhead meet? The Beta Phi party last night? She looked like she was eighteen.”

“Airhead?” I ask.

“It was written on her pants. Literally.”

“Oh, right. Those weren’t her pants. Lindsay left them last week.”

She makes a disgusted face as she pulls her long dark hair into a messy bun. I don’t notice most things about Parker as a girl, because, ya know, it’s just Parker, but she does have some damn good hair. It’s all Victoria’s Secret model–-like, long and dark with lightish streaks running through it.

The rest of her is kind of Victoria’s Secret-ish, too, but other than an initial moment of whoa when we first met, there’s never really been anything between us. I guess you could say I like her too much.

That and she’s dating Lance, and I like the guy. I mean, we’re not best friends or anything, but it’s impossible to live with Parker and not have some sort of friendship with her significant other.

Lance and I stop short of braiding each other’s hair, but we watch games together on occasion. I’d never make a move on his girl—even if I wanted Parker.

Which I don’t.

“So let me get this straight,” she says, as I swipe my credit card through the self-checkout machine. “One of your booty calls leaves her pants, which is weird, by the way, and then a week later, an underclassman sorority girl willingly puts them on?”

I shrug and give her a look out of the corner of my eye. “What’s wrong with that?”

Parker closes her eyes and sort of scratches at her eyebrow. “You don’t tell your mother any of this, do you?”

“Sure, we actually have a family blog, and I list my sexual activity for the week every Sunday. Is that weird?”

She ignores me, pulling out her phone again.

Synopsis:

Never in your wildest dreams could you begin to imagine all the filthy and depraved things that go on inside The Wicked Horse. Step inside and Woolf Jennings will make every one of your dirty fantasies come true.

He’s covered in a facade of deception. An enticing blend of multi-millionaire and hot-as-hell Wyoming rancher, those that think they know Woolf Jennings admire his abilities to preside as CEO of his family’s cattle and oil empire. But only a privileged few truly understand what fuels the glitter of depravity in those gorgeous blue eyes. Only a few know he’s opened up a sinfully erotic and private sex club named The Wicked Horse right at the base of the beautiful Teton Mountain range.

Sweet Callie Hayes has returned home to Wyoming and is looking forward to starting her life over again. After a night of impetuosity, she’s managed to put herself right in Woolf’s line of sight… the man who she foolishly offered up her virginity to years ago and was flatly turned down.

Now Woolf is seeing that Callie is all grown up and has a kinky side to her that leaves him as confused as it does turned on. Worse yet, both Callie’s dirty desires and sweet heart are getting under his skin, and making Woolf question everything he’s ever believed about himself.

Kristys review

I just finished this one and HOLY HELL did I love it.  I mean, it was a Sawyer Bennett book so I knew it was going to be good, but I just wasn’t ready for how good this book was going to be.  And dirty…oohhh this book was just the best kind of dirty.  That “oh no they are not going to go there”  then  “Oh My God they totally went there ”  kind of dirty.  I just have to say…Sawyer Bennett knows her kink and she knows how to make that kink work for her characters and her readers.

First of all…the story was great.  I’m such a sucker for a second chance, friends to lovers romance and this one delivers on all counts.  Callie has had a crush on her older brother’s best friend for as long as she can remember, but she’s always known he wasn’t interested in her in that way and she hasn’t seen him in a long time.  Now, after years away from her home town, Callie is back, just off of a broken engagement and right in Woolf’s path.

Woolf is sitting right on top of his own little empire.  He’s running a fortune 500 company, a busy cattle ranch and building his very own (wet) dream wonderland with his best friend Bridger.  Living out his kinky fantasies and raking in money, Woolf doesn’t think he’s missing out on anything.  But the second he sees Callie dancing on his bar everything he thinks he knows is called into question.

Second of all…this story is hot!! Really hot….the best kind of kinky hot.  Woolf doesn’t have a whole lot of sexual boundaries, if it makes him turns him on he’s down for it.  Callie doesn’t have a whole lot of sexual experience, having lost her virginity to her fiancé, she’s used to everything being pretty vanilla and she’s still trying to figure out what turns her on.   It’s pretty damn interesting watching these two tiptoe their way through a sexual mine field.

Third of all….this story is freaking romantic.  It’s wonderful when an author knows how to mix the perfect amount of sex, a little bit of kink and a whole boatload of sweet romance.

And Lastly…this story has great characters.  Callie is a great female lead.  In a situation where she could be feeling sorry for herself, she is strong and curious and eager to stand on her own two feet.  Woolf is the perfect, dirty talking, hot, rich cowboy.  He’s just a damn good guy with mostly good intentions, especially towards Callie.  And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Bridger, I adored Bridger.  He is such a unique character, part confidant, part therapist, part life coach, part kinky son of a b*tch.  If that man doesn’t get his own book at some point all will not be right with the world.

I loved Sawyer Bennett after the Cold Fury Hockey series, but now…now I adore her on an entirely different level.  This book was fantastic.

Synopsis

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend…and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

Wenn’s Review

4 Star Review

Where do I start…

HIM is my first M/M book, and I can’t tell you how glad I am to have popped my M/M cherry with this book.

Jamie and Wes’ story is really sweet and truly adorable.

This is a friends to lovers story. It all starts with a lost bet and from there Wes and Jamie’s friendship is suddenly over. Several years later they meet again and while Wes thought his attraction toward Jamie was just an adolescent crush, we understand that this is much more than a simple attraction.

At the beginning of the story, I felt a bit disoriented, I love my heroes alpha so I didn’t know what to expect here. But the feeling did not last long, I quickly felt deeply immersed in their story.

I loved the playfulness between them, and the fact that their friendship stayed the same even with some adjustments in it!   I can’t say more, it would spoil the story! 😉

Never would have I thought that reading sex scenes between two guys would have been so hot. It felt so right, so real. I loved it.

Kristy’s Review 4 Star Review

So, unlike Wenn, HIM was not my first M/M Book (more like my 5th or 6th) and I did really enjoy it, I swear I did.  I thought there were parts of it that were wonderful, but  there where a few places it fell short for me, hence the 4 Stars.

First of all, I loved both of these boys…ALOT.  It’s so wonderful to read a book where both main characters are fun, funny, sexy, athletic hotties and really, really good guys.  Their friendship was everything a bromance should be.  They were silly,  they were competitive, they were fun and most importantly…they were believable.  But at the end of their last year at camp things took a surprising turn and their friendship was irrevocably changed.

Fast forward five years and they are back in each other’s lives trying to figure out what went wrong and where they go from here.  Wes is openly gay (mostly) and Jamie is straight (mostly) and they’re both playing college hockey and heading to the NHL.  Watching these two navigate their way through the changes in their relationship and their plans for the future is a great ride.

For me, the only thing that prevented it from being a 5 or 6 star book it the fact that the end seemed a little rushed.  Some major life decisions are made and a few of then just seem a little too quick.  And as much as I liked this story, I have read other M/M stories that maybe hit some of the important issues a little bit better.

Overall, this is a great read and hot as hell (and I mean that in the best possible way).  You will definitely not regret this one.  And for those of you who aren’t sure about trying M/M, this would be the perfect introduction, just the right amount of sweet, hot and romantic.

Synopsis:

“Quint and Annie sitting in a tree…K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”

Quint Lawson and Annie Weber heard that childhood song over and over and it never bothered them. Even though Quint was only five, Annie wasn’t just his neighbor. She would become his best friend and the love of his life. Annie wasn’t interested in dolls, or girly things when growing up. A tomboy at heart, having a boy as a best friend suited her just fine. That same boy captured her heart.

Quint had two passions, his girl and baseball. From kindergarten to college, Quint tore up every baseball diamond he played on. His position was shortstop. His talent was undeniable. Professional ball was most definitely in his future, and he was ready for it. Annie would be right by his side.

When everything in life is perfect, it’s hard to imagine heartbreak in any form. Quint wasn’t immune to its power. This shortstop had no idea what any form of heartbreak could do to his perfect world. When it hit, there were many casualties left in its wake…the most important one was Annie.

Can a person be prepared for, understand, or even endure a misfortune if they’ve never experienced one before? In Quint Lawson’s case the answer is no.

I’m not quite sure why I went after this ARC….probably because I love sports and friends to lovers stories and I had read one of A.M. Madden’s previous books and I liked it well enough. I wasn’t particularly excited about starting this one but I made a commitment to review and I was going to stick to that. Turns out I should have been REALLY FREAKIN’ EXCITED to be reading this book. I should have been freaking GIDDY that someone was letting me read this book. The book hangover from this one has lasted all week. I’m a damn blogger and I haven’t read a book ALL WEEK because The Shortstop just fulfilled every single thing I need a book to fulfill. It was so damn good.

The first half of the book was sweet in all the best ‘friends to lovers’, ‘high school sweethearts’, ‘next door neighbors’ kind of ways. Annie and Quint are adorable and good to each other. They are likable characters and clearly in love with their future all mapped out for them. What I loved about the first half of this book was as great as their story was….I just felt this tension while I was reading it…not between the characters…but in my gut I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and I KNEW the shoe was going to drop. That tension is the kind of thing that makes a book great for me. I was scared to death for them (yep…for fictional characters) and that’s why I read books…to FEEL that fear…to know something is coming and to dread and crave it all at the same time.

Just to prove my point….this is what my FB post looked like while I was reading:

Screenshot_2015-07-11-20-45-51

Want to hear the best part? When that shoe dropped….it was nothing like what I expected…NOTHING. Not only that…it seemed like nothing I had ever read before. I read tons of sports romances and this one had something NEW. My God do I love being surprised by a book. And then this book got painful. For me it was ugly cry, actual pain in my chest, sobbing, angry oh please no kind of crying. Actually…I still cry when I think about. I finished this book a week ago and I’m crying while I write this review because parts of this book will just rip your heart out.

And then

It got more painful. I was thinking about this analogy the other day…it was like A.M. Madden ripped my heart out and then, just when I thought she was done…she threw it on the floor and stomped the hell out of it. The good news? She did eventually pick up all the little pieces, put them back together in the most beautiful way and give it back to me…..and somehow managed to leave me sobbing with joy and grateful for the experience.

Quint is a beautiful boy with such a good heart. You will love him, you will root for him, you will adore his sappy romantic side and the care with which he loves and protects Annie. He is every bit a boy who fell in love at 5 years old and never fell out. But you will hate him and you will be so damn angry with him and you will want to simultaneously beat the hell out of him and hold him.

Annie is sweet, almost too sweet. She is supportive and loving and totally willing to stand on the sidelines to root for her man, She is every bit the girl who fell in love at 5 years old and never fell out. But she can be her own kind of frustrating, the kind where you just want to yell please Annie, have an opinion, stand up for yourself, stop being so meek. You’ll love her, but you’ll want to take her and shake her too. I don’t want to spoil anything…but let me just say a great character evolution absolutely rocks. And Annie’s is one of the best character evolutions, like top three I’ve ever read for a female character. Yep…that good.

I read a lot of books…A LOT of them. Some I wish I hadn’t wasted my time on, some were OK, some I’m really freaking happy I got to read….but this book…THIS book I’m GRATEFUL that I got to read it. Absolutely grateful for the experience of this book and for me…that puts it in a very elite group.

Well, with the exception of my tongue. The countless things I can do with my tongue are bound to leave you breathless and begging for more, but more… is something that I can’t give. It’s a choice. My choice.

There’s a reason for that. A very good reason, and that reason is her.

Riley.

She’s the only woman that I want to bury myself deep in. The one woman I have wanted since I was old enough to fuck.

I never got my chance though, because she left. She had no choice and it stung like hell. But I couldn’t let her leave without telling her how I felt. I wanted her to be my first and I didn’t give a shit how long I’d have to wait.

It’s been six years and now she’s back and sexier than all hell. Just the sight of her stops my damn heart from beating. I want her and for more than just having her as my first.

I’m determined to have her in every way possible. She thinks this is still a game; that I’ve already given myself to countless women. What she doesn’t know is that I have a lot of willpower.

When I want something as badly as I want her, I don’t let shit stand in my way. I’m going to prove that to her. There’s just one little problem I need to take care of…

Him.

tag19After securing my apron filled with my lotions and oils, I turn to the table and my heart starts pounding like crazy in my chest as I see a body, barely covered by a small towel, just waiting to be touched by me. I swallow hard while letting my eyes roam over the stiff muscles of the tanned back on display. The top of the client’s ass peeks out of the towel, displaying the roundest, firmest ass I have ever seen before… and the dimples in his back are making it hard for me to gain some much-needed confidence.

Doing a silly little shake in an attempt to shake my nerves off, I squirt some oil in my hands and slowly run my hands up the bottom of his back, being sure to make it feel as insanely good as I possibly can.

The feel of his muscled back beneath my fingers and the deep, undeniably sexy moan that escapes his throat almost has me turned on as I start to go lower, until I’m right above his ass.

“Go lower,” the deep voice whispers. “Take the towel off.”

I almost deny his request, when I remember that Sensual Touches is clothing optional. That’s the one thing that almost kept me from applying, but comparing the pay that you get here versus the other options, I knew what my choice had to be.

“This is new to me,” I whisper, before speaking up. “Let me know if you get uncomfortable and I’ll replace it before you flip over on your back.”

“That won’t be an issue,” he says huskily.

Keeping my moan to myself, I lower my hands down to his ass, removing the towel little by little as I continue to get lower. As soon as my hands reach the bottom of his ass, I remove the towel completely and hold back the gasp that fights to escape me.

Holy hotness…

Remembering that this was per his request, and that it’s fully professional to be doing this here at Sensual Touches, I grip the back of his upper thighs and massage it while rubbing my thumbs over the bottom of his tight ass, enjoying every single moment of it.

In fact, I’m enjoying it so much that I almost feel guilty. Tyler and I have been broken up for less than a week, and here I am enjoying myself as I rub on another man’s ass, listening closely for each moan that he will grace my ears with.

After spending a good, long, fifteen minutes on his ass itself, I focus my attention on the rest of his muscular body, mentally preparing myself for the rest of his gloriousness that I’ll be seeing in the flesh as soon as I finish up on his backside.

Now I understand why that Hailey chick is going to be pissed off. Massaging this stud has to be the best part of her job here. How can you not enjoy this?

Pulling my hands away, I turn away to give him some privacy. “I’m ready for you to flip over, sir. Please let me know when you’re ready.”

“I’m always ready for you, Rile.”Cale 3.5

I was really anticipating the release of Cale…Slade is one of my very favorite novellas and, while I thought Hemy was OK, I was hopeful Cale would close out the Walk of Shame series in the same manner in which Slade started it…spectacularly.  I’m not sure I would call Cale spectacular…but it was certainly a great read and a wonderful ending to a sweet (and DIRTY) little series.

We all remember Cale from Slade and Hemy…he was the third stripper and bartender at the Walk of Shame bar and despite bringing home plenty of one night stands and pleasuring woman in all kinds of interesting ways (usually involving his tongue) he refused to have intercourse, saving his virginity for some unknown woman from his past.  In Cale we get to meet said unknown woman as Riley (Aspen’s sister) comes home to Chicago after 6 years in Mexico looking after her elderly grandmother.  Through a series of fairly awesome flashbacks, we learn that Cale and Riley were best friends from childhood through High School and that they are both ecstatic about their pending reunion.

Cale is the same sweet, fun loving, gorgeous man we met in the previous books.  He’s so different from the other Walk of Shame boys in that he’s just a good, nice guy with no major issues.  It’s actually refreshing to read a male alpha who’s not damaged and brooding, I loved that about Cale.  Riley’s friendship with Cale is adorable and believable and her character is cute, if not overly memorable.  Their relationship of course, hits a couple of snags along the way and it was nice to see a couple kind of handle adversity like grown ups, no temper tantrums…it was nice.

The rest of the Walk of Shame crew make a few appearances and it’s always great to revisit old favorites.   Cale is a great short read…exactly what the final novella of and series should be cute, romantic, sexy, hot and happy.  This book isn’t going to rock your world….but it a great way to spend a couple of hours and the perfect swan song for the Walk of Shame boys.

Crash Ride (Power Station #2) By T. Gephart

Megan Winters had lusted over Troy Harris, drummer for international rock band Power Station, for years. Not being the type of girl who was invited backstage, her fantasies had stayed just that, fantasies. When her best friend unexpectedly starts dating one of the other band members it puts her on a crash course at war with her libido. Her solution— they need to have sex. Surely once she had scratched that itch, and saw the fantasy didn’t live up to the reality she could move on. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Troy Harris vowed to stay away from Megs. The sexy, smart and funny blonde left his mind and his body feeling like a pretzel. No matter how attracted he was to her, she was a no-go zone. The best friend of his best friend’s girlfriend? Cue the reality show. But when she gives him the chance to have a one-night no strings good time, there was no way he could turn that down. Maybe she was right. One night, and then they could go back to being just friends.

Both of them were delusional.

Book two of the Power Station series.

4 Star Review

Another great book from T. Gephart.  This book was every bit as good as the first one, if not better.  I was afraid the story would be too similar, after a while all of these rocker books kind of seem the same, but this one was a pleasantly unique.  Megs and Troy’s story is so different from Dan and Ashlyn’s and I think that was the best surprise of all.  The beginning of the book is a trope we’ve all read, two friends decide that no-strings attached sex is a good idea when, of course we all know that will never work.  But where the story goes from there is an interesting and not at all what I expected.  Having read as many books as I have, anything that keeps me guessing is always a plus.

I really thought I couldn’t love any of the Power Station boys more than the cocky, inappropriate, slightly clueless but always a good guy…Dan.  I was wrong, Troy is so different but just as amazing.  Troy is sincere and kind and funny and hot as hell with his mohawk and his tattoos.  It awesome to have a character that is so interesting and engaging while just being a good guy.

Megs is a little neurotic, a lot obsessed with Troy Harris and pretty funny.  She’s also really smart and successful and actually has her life together, which I loved.  Megs was great in High Strung and I especially loved how she handled Dan when Ashlyn and Dan split up so watching her navigate her relationship with Troy was a pleasure.

These books are just so well written that I find them oddly relaxing and comforting.  They are just an easy read and I’ve already started the next book.  I can’t think of the last time I read three book in the same series in the same week and didn’t get bored.  This might be a first.
