Football hero by day and thief by night, Charles “Cugs” McConnely leads a double life in the small town of Newbark, Florida. At sundown, the seventeen-year-old turns burglar, forced into the business by the man who should be teaching him the difference between right and wrong: his father.

Cugs is a pro at both games, but only one can secure him a college scholarship. It should be an easy decision, a no-brainer—if Newbark hadn’t proffered the only life he knows.

After run-ins with Nadine Paganelli, his accidental victim and the sole person to have caught him in the act, Cugs starts to realize that hearts can be stolen too.
When his long-lost sister makes contact, lies are uncovered and truths revealed. Suddenly, Cugs finds himself questioning both plans and loyalties. Because sometimes the only way to move forward is by pulling the bottom out of the past.

EXCERPT:

Last night wasn’t good. Dad’s getting more eager. He wants to accomplish so much on his shopping sprees, blaming a more expensive life now that Step-Cynth’s with us. I’m not in a place to meddle, but it seems six-packs of aprons aren’t the only things she buys on his bill.

My father’s becoming sloppy. Yesterday, we returned in the early morning after hitting almost a dozen houses. The owners of four of them were still at home. Yeah. He isn’t doing his homework the way he used to.

Thing is I’m tired. I don’t see a change in sight. Now, I try to keep my eyes open as I drive the wreck to Orlando to meet up with Keyon. Which is going to come back and bite me in the ass. What other option did I have though, come off as a coward to, in the words of Liza, “freaking Keyon Arias of Alliance Cage Warriors?”

Keyon is already there when I enter the Hard Rock Café. He fills out his side of the booth with fighter shoulders and wide thighs. Elbows on the table and bent over a glass of water, he lifts a hand in greeting as soon as he sees me. My chance to chicken out just dissipated.

“Cugs,” he says, voice husky like it is after a fight. Maybe that’s his voice now. I remember it light, prepubescent, I guess, from back when my own had the pitch of a little kid.

“Keyon.” I tip my head, acknowledging him without a smile, and then I sit down in front of him.

“Soda?”

I think of the possibility of going to Gainesville for the tryouts. “Ice water.”

Keyon doesn’t need to do much to get the waitress over. Half-turned to our table, she’s hovering with a watchful eye. When he glances up, she meets his stare immediately and hurries over.

“How are you?” From his expression, he’s not just being polite. He wants to know. “It’s been so long since we’ve talked.”

“I’m good,” I lie.

“What have you been up to? Your sister has been trying to get a hold of you.”

I’ve steeled myself for questions, assuming they would come. I didn’t think he’d start with them right away though.

“Oh you know, living it up in Newbark.” I do a long, purposely fake nod hoping it will make him laugh. Instead, he studies me, starting with my eyes then traveling over my face.

“You liking it there? How’s your old man?”

I shrug, unable to lie about him. “Married again. To a girl Paislee’s age.”

His eyes widen a little. “Is that so?”

“Yeah, as of a few months ago.”

“Geez.” He blows air out his nose. “New stepmother, huh?”

“Yeah, she isn’t exactly Mom.” And there, I said it. I hope he doesn’t notice. I open my mouth to add something, whatever, to get us off the subject, but he jumps in before me.

“You miss your mother?”

Silence.

Snowmen. Hot chocolate. Cold summer lakes. Blue lips.

So YA is kind of new for me. It’s not my usual genre-of-choice, but I love Sunniva’s writing and I figured if she was going to try something new, then I could, too. Plus, I really wanted to hear Cugs’ story. And I’m so glad I did. Cugs is the perfect example of a good guy stuck in terrible circumstances. And man, you can’t help but root for this guy. Cugs was everything I hoped he would be, I loved him. I loved watching him overcome and figure himself out and I especially loved watching him fall in love. I found it so unusual to be reading a story completely from a guys point of view, but I don’t think it could have been done any better. And Nadine was a great heroine. If I had one single critique of this book, it’s that I would have loved more of Cugs and Nadine, but then again…I am Obsessed with Romance.

As always, Sunniva’s writing style isn’t like anyone else’s. She makes the words bend to fit her narrative instead of making her story fit the words. Sometimes it takes me a minute to settle into one of her books, but once I do, I’m completely lost in the world she created. And I loved being lost in there with Cugs. I especially loved the tie-ins to her previous novel, Dodging Trains. I’ll be honest, I don’t think YA is my thing, and I had to remind myself, once or twice, that this was the story of Cugs’ journey, not the story of his romance. But it was a spectacular journey and I’m so glad I was along for the ride.

Author Bio:

Between studies, teaching, and advising, Sunniva has spent her entire adult life in a college environment. Most of her novels are new adult romance geared toward smart, passionate readers with a love for eclectic language and engaging their brain as well as their heart while reading.

Born in the Land of the Midnight Sun, the author spent her early twenties making the world her playground. Southern Europe: Spain, Italy, Greece–Argentina: Buenos Aires, in particular. The United States finally kept her interest, and after half a decade in Los Angeles, she now lounges in the beautiful city of Savannah.

Sometimes, Sunniva writes with a paranormal twist (Shattering Halos, Stargazer, and Cat Love). At other times, it’s contemporary (Pandora Wild Child, Leon’s Way, Adrenaline Crush, Walking Heartbreak, and Dodging Trains, coming in late March 2016).

This author is the happiest when her characters let their emotions run off with them, shaping her stories in ways she never foresaw. She loves bad-boys and good-boys run amok, and like in real life, her goal is to keep the reader on her toes until the end of each story.

Breslin—I was in love with Asher Holden the moment I saw him…and I knew nothing would ever be the same.
Then he hurt me. He wrecked me. He ruined me.
I spent three years putting myself together—fixing what he broke.
I never thought I’d see him again after that day.
I was counting on it.
Little did I know—life had other plans…and things were going to become a lot more complicated.
Asher—I finally know who I am. I own it, I embrace it…I’m no longer afraid.
I live my life with no regrets now, because I’ve learned my lesson—the hard way.
I thought I had it all figured out.
But then my past collides with my present…and things become complicated.
Turns out I don’t really know myself after all.

Landon— My life was all mapped out.
I knew exactly what direction I was heading in—I didn’t have time for any roadblocks or obstacles.
Then I meet her.
And him.
Now, my heart is split right down the middle.
She controls the rhythm. He controls the melody.
Complicated doesn’t even begin to cover it…and there’s only one way this can end.
Warning: This story is for mature readers only, due to language and sexual themes. This story contains explicit content featuring m/f, m/m, m/f/m.
Trigger Warning:
This story is strange and unconventional. It’s everything you hate. That’s the only warning I can offer you.

So this book had me from page one. Talk about being instantly invested!! I was hooked by chapter one, tearing up by chapter two, bawling by chapter three and in love by chapter four. This book had absolutely everything I love…EVERYTHING. Angst that tore at my heart, romance that made me swoon, heartbreak that had me crying and sex that made me…

It’s the characters, all three of them, that make this book spectacular. Breslin is every girl who falls in love and every woman with a broken heart. I loved her and I got her. I didn’t love every choice she made, but in the context of her life…I believed her reasons. Landon is AWESOME. Just every good thing you want your hero to be. Smart, caring, talented and compassionate (also hot AF). He is solid and strong and steady and makes people around him want to be better. Then there is Asher. Asher is my kryptonite. He is everything that makes me fall in love with a book boyfriend. He is a beautiful, broken, confused and sad. He is every boy that lost hope and lost his way and desperately needs a second chance. He is a man in search of redemption and OMG do I love a good redemption story.

This story is heart-wrenching and beautiful, sad and redeeming, completely messed up and totally logical. It just feels like it couldn’t have played out any other way. The love stories are breath-taking (like I literally caught my breath), the mistakes are tragic and the future is unclear…but I can’t wait to read it.

Ashley Jade is a relatively new author to me… but damn, the girl played my emotions like virtuoso. My expectations were HUGE!! Consider them completely exceeded.

I’m a lover of romance, erotica, dark romance, oxford comma’s, the em dash, peanut butter on my cookies and anything thought provoking…except for math.

I’ve always read books growing up and after having a strange dream one night; I decided to just go for it and publish my first series.

Little did I know, I would end up falling head over heels in love with writing and it would own and soothe my soul.

If I’m not paying off student loan debt, working, or writing a novel—you can usually find me listening to music and pondering the meaning of life.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

On Amazon : http://amzn.to/2peXzzi

Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She’d been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have…until he wasn’t beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl’s love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior’s love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast where we discover that there is little beauty and a little beast in all of us.

Why? Why in the hell did I wait so long to read this book? Just….WHY? This book floored me. It was everything I hoped it was going to be and then it was even more than that. Nothing on earth is better than a book that takes it’s time, builds not just characters, but an entire world full of places and people that you can see clearly in your mind. OMG did I love this book.

Every character was amazing, real, believable. I felt like I knew every single one of them. There is something amazing about an author who is willing to take her time and introduce you properly to every character. Nothing is a throw away here, there is intent and purpose behind each person, each scene and each and every word. I loved Fern. She was absolutely amazing and completely different than any other female lead I’ve read. And I loved Bailey. And I especially loved Ambrose, again, he was like nothing I ever read before.

The best part about this book… Amy Harmon broke all the rules. This book does a ton of things romance books aren’t supposed to do and I LOVE it more for that. This book made me think, made me cry, made me laugh, made me appreciate and consider and feel. The entire time I read it, I just kept thinking…. how? How can a book be this absolutely amazing? How can an author be this good? How did it take me so long to read this book?

Blurb

Tanner Harris has been busy shagging his way through the ladies of east London, but getting caught by the paparazzi buck-naked with his trouser snake in his hands means he’s sowed his last wild oat.

Dr. Belle Ryan once thought Tanner Harris was the perfect kind of bearded bad boy she needed to relieve a bit of stress after her intense job as a surgical fellow, but an icy cold rejection from London’s sluttiest footballer puts the two at each other’s throats.

Fate and a favour conspire to put Tanner and Belle back in each other’s paths and they’re forced to do a lot more than get along to save face and their careers.

Rage turns to passion and tempers run sizzling hot when they realize they aren’t just falling for each other—they’re jumping head first. And neither have the endurance to keep their hands to themselves.

I recently finished the audiobook of Endurance and it was absolutely spectacular. I LOVED it. It’s the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a long time.

The narrators were both amazing, but especially the male narrator. He just nailed it, humor, cockiness, fear, pain…every emotion he got exactly right. The duet narration was great, too. I’m so grateful I listened instead of reading.

And the book itself was such a pleasant surprise. I simply adored it. Comedy and romance are so hard to do, it seems like one always suffers and that was not the case here. This book was so funny, and not stupid slapstick funny, but smart humor that had me laughing out loud. The dialogue and the characters were so hysterical, especially when Tanner and Belle really get into it, their insults were so funny. I rarely like comedic books…but I loved this one.

And dang, the romance was on point too. I was tearing up, swooning, absolutely falling in love. I completely believed their relationship and loved both characters. They were both so multi-dimensional, so realistic and human, so flawed yet wonderful. I could not have loved this book more.

I am absolutely thrilled to find a new author to be excited about, also….completely getting Challenge next!!

Third and Long (Moving the Chains 3) by Kata Cuic

Synopsis

Not everyone plays by the rules.

Eva Papageorgiou has it all: the popularity that always felt so elusive in high school, looks that men can’t ignore, and a boyfriend that other women covet. She’s gorgeous, powerful; she has the world at her fingertips.

And it’s all a lie.

The problem with living a lie is how easy it is to forget who you’re lying to. Eva’s time to withdraw into the shadows has expired, courtesy of Rob’s rising fame. Her only option is to hide in plain sight.
Amid all the chaos, Rob is her safe escape from it all. They continue to be stronger together than they ever could be on their own.
Until being together is what tears them apart.

Rob Falls has everything he’s ever wanted: his dream girl, a winning team, respect from everyone. He’s at the top of his game, with a Heisman nod on the horizon, and the potential to be a first-round draft pick.

And it’s all crumbling before his eyes.

The mounting pressure of being an athlete at the next level while doing all he can to protect Eva takes its toll. He doesn’t sleep enough, he worries constantly, and he’s torn wanting to be in two places at once.
Rob never imagined the day he’d have to choose between fame and love.

Sometimes life makes choices for us.

With the game and their hearts on the line, will Rob and Eva keep their secrets hidden? Or will they reveal everything to each other, to themselves, to the world…only to lose it all?

Kata Cuic’s tagline is Real Romance from the Trenches of Real Life. Seriously, there has never been anything more fitting. This book, these characters… they are real to me. I think about them, I cry for them, I hope for them, I want for them. When this series ends I will mourn the loss of them, I will cry because I won’t get to follow them into old age. Hell, I have tears rolling down my face right now just thinking about it. Nobody…NOBODY writes like this. I can’t think of one other author that writes real life so perfectly, so eloquently and so emotionally.

This book is both a big departure from the first two books of the series and a perfect logical inevitable progression for the characters. The first book, First and Goal, is sweet and funny and emotional. It’s first love and first mistakes at their finest. The second book, Second Down, is sadder and tougher. It’s love surviving in the face of adversity and heartbreak. And this book….this book is love struggling to survive in the face of real life. Real life were things can go from amazing to unbearable in the blink of an eye, where things aren’t fair and love isn’t easy and some days it’s all you can do to hold on. But where the good days make all the bad days worth the effort.

Rob and Evie are real people to me. They are so intricate and fleshed out and believable. In this book, more than any of the others in the series, you understand them, you feel what they feel, you know them and consequently you take the journey with them. When they got it right, my heart rejoiced with theirs, and when they made mistakes my heart broke with theirs, and when they cried, I cried horrible ugly-cry tears. I have never, in my life, read a book that made me feel so much. And the other characters in this story elicit just as much emotion from me. There are characters that I love passionately, and characters I hate viscerally. There is literally not one character in this story that I don’t have some kind of reaction to…and that to me is the mark of a great book. Nothing is a throwaway, everything, every character, every scene, every action,  builds this world and this story.

I read a ton of books, and I have for years, and in my opinion, there are only a handful of authors I’ve come across that can make a story live and breathe real life the way Kata Cuic does. I have loved other books and other couples, but with Rob and Evie I find myself constantly needing to be reminded that they are not, in fact, real people. Third and Long will stay with you long after you’ve finished it, at least that’s true for me.  This book is not light and fluffy, it’s not rainbows and unicorns, and if that’s what you’re looking for, this might be the wrong fit for you. But if read to feel real emotions, if you read because you appreciate the journey as much as the destination, if you read because sometimes you need to get lost in someone else’s life for awhile, then this book will blow you away. When the last book in the series comes out, I have a feeling it will be bitter sweet. I can not wait for the rest of Rob and Evie’s journey and I desperately anticipate their HEA. I know when they get there, no other couple will ever have deserved it more. But I also know, when I turn to the last page, I will be so grateful for the journey and so sad for the end of the ride.

About the Author

Kata lives near Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and three children. When she isn’t writing or rewriting or editing or staring at the infuriating blinking cursor on her screen, she’s reading. A self-proclaimed binge-reader who has issues with moderation, she struggles to wear all the necessary hats of wife, mother, reader, writer, chef, maid, chauffeur, nurse on any given day. Furious Rush by S.C. Stephens

Too fast, too furious-and way too hot to handle . . .

Mackenzie Cox has a lot to prove. Daughter of a racing legend, she is eager to show the world that she has inherited her father’s talent in the male-dominated sport of professional motorcycle racing. The last thing Kenzie needs is to be antagonized by her rival team’s newest rider, Hayden Hayes. Plucked from the world of illegal street racing, Hayden immediately gets under Kenzie’s skin. His insinuations that Kenzie is a spoiled princess who was handed her career fuels her desire to win, and much to her surprise, Kenzie soon learns she performs better when she’s racing against Hayden.

As Kenzie and Hayden push each other on the track, the electric energy between them off the track shifts into an intense–and strictly forbidden–attraction. The only rule between their two ultra-competitive teams is zero contact. Kenzie always does her best to play by the rules, but when her team slips into a financial crisis, she has no choice but to turn to Hayden for help. The tension simmers during their secret, late-night rendezvous, but Kenzie has too much to lose to give in to her desires. Especially when she begins to doubt that Hayden has completely left his street life behind…

Kristys Review (2)3 Stars

Didn’t quite cross the finish line for me.

Three stars is almost generous for me on this one, it’s probably should be a little lower. I wanted to love it, and honestly the plot did pull me along. I had a hard time putting it down, which should sound great right? But I wasn’t really enjoying it, I was waiting for it to deliver on all the promise it had, I was waiting to love it. And at times I thought it was close, but it never got me there.

I never fell for Hayden and I never really believed the chemistry between the main characters or the love story. There wasn’t enough of Hayden on the pages to make me love him. I spent too much time unsure if I could trust him. And Kenzie was not likable for a lot of the book. Just kind of mean for no reason. Without using spoilers it’s hard to say exactly what went wrong, but the major plot points keeping them apart where thin at best, Hayden was TOO mysterious, and several items that needed to be cleared up were left unfinished. Also the end seemed oddly rushed and somewhat incomplete. I’m a huge SC Stephens fan, this one just didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Kristys Review (2)5 1_2 Star ReviewI’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but Jewel E. Ann is undoubtedly the best author writing books right now. That is not an opinion….it’s a fact. Her Jack and Jill series was my absolute favorite read of last year. Seriously, if you haven’t read that yet…..RUN AND GRAB IT !!! (Hint the first book, End of Day ,is free right now.)  So when I found out Cage and Lake were getting a book of their own (and a second chance) I was ecstatic.  I was worried though….I mean I had such high expectations and I knew there wasn’t going to be as much action as there had been in the JnJ series so I had doubts. Silly stupid me. I should know better. Every Jewel E Ann book I have read has been SPECTACULAR and this is no exception.

Cage and Lake are wonderful and it is so great to get to hang out with them again. Both of them will melt your heart and then, when they are together the heat will melt your lady parts. (Can I say that?) But what makes this book extraordinary is the fact that the story is not extraordinary. These are two real people, in real life situations, facing challenges and trials and every day life and they are trying to figure out how to do it together. Funny things happen because that’s real, sad things happen because that’s how life is sometimes. They have ups and down, they have stops and starts….it’s glorious. I adored every minute of it. Cage is right up there with the best BBFs ever written but Lake? Lake is messy perfection. I loved her

As with every Jewel book, One has ALL the emotions….EVERY.SINGLE.ONE. I laughed loud, I cried hard, I swooned big time and I cheered like crazy. This book…..this book is the ONE.

Kristys Review (2)

6 Stars

This is the one. This book right here is the one I’ve been waiting for. I knew Sunniva had this in her. Her last three were great, I loved them…but this book I ADORED. I can’t even explain how happy I am right now.

You have to know I’m a sucker for a bad boy rocker so I expected to like Emil. And he was entertaining in Walking Heartbreak and I had high hopes. But oh my God I never expected to love him like I do. Passionately! I never expected him to make me cry for him, to break my heart, to have me laughing and cheering and screaming. Emil’s pain is palpable, his confusion tangible and his desperation so very emotional. This boy was just a beautiful broken mess.

Then in walks Aishe. Aishe is a character I just got. I totally understood her. She was determined and willful while still being insecure. She was both selfish and caring. She was a dichotomy. A wonderfully interesting dichotomy. I felt her every emotion…her confusion, her hurt, her fear, her lust, mostly her desperate grip on Emil.

I read a lot of books and I like a lot of books, but I am rarely surprised by a book.

Sunniva DeeMy convo w/Sunniva mid-book

Clearly this book surprised me. In the best possible way. I don’t trust Sunniva. I have said before that she is unconventional and unwilling to conform. It makes her a loose cannon. It makes her books a crazy exhilarating ride. I never knew what she was going to do next. And I LOVED that I never knew what she was going to do next.

This book was eloquent even when it was being crude and raw. It was so HOT and wrong and yet absolutely completely right. Perverted and sexy and sad and beautiful. It was crazy. Easily in my top 10 this year and a six star read for sure. This is a book I will read over and over again.

EXCERPT:

AISHE

I come from a family that burns with love. You wouldn’t understand unless you were one of us. I’m not just talking my father and my mother—I’m talking every one of my ancestors. It’s in our genetic build to spend all of our energy on love.

Once we come of age, it strikes and blazes with a fire that eats you alive. This love is a plague that boils in my race and in my culture, and I wouldn’t know a different way unless I’d broken free and seen strangers love with milder flames.

Tonight, my eyes go from the merchandise on my table to the blond-headed burst of life hopping off the stage. His gaze shimmers with amusement, a cocky lip twitching as he slaps high-fives to guys and pinches girl-cheeks on his way over.

“Aishe! You got those super-tight, hot little tees with the broken heart thingy on the front? The ones the chicks dig?” he asks once he’s in front of me, Emil, the vocalist of Clown Irruption, one of the hottest alt-rock indie-bands out there. I’ve been their merch girl for a few months now. Each night, I zoom in on Emil with less and less difficulty.

“Yeah. Troll picked them up this morning,” I say referring to their tour manager.

“This is so cool—finally we see actual merch money,” Emil laughs out. Then he sets a hand to the table and squints at me. “You’ve done much better than your cousin. I mean, Shandor, man.” He shakes his head playfully. “He couldn’t draw dudes to the stand worth shit.”

My face loosens in a smile. I send a subtle glance at Shandor, who’s busy wrapping things up on stage, coiling cables and breaking down drums. To sell T-shirts wasn’t what he burned for. Shandor was born with the plague of our people too, but he hasn’t found his beloved yet. My people, we need something to obsess over, so if it’s not a man’s love for a woman or vice versa, it’s something else, and Shandor, he loves his music. Once the band promoted him from merch guy to monitors on stage, he recommended me to fill his spot, and voilà, here I am.

Shandor raises his head and stills on us, focus intent from under dark locks. He’s got a sixth sense for when guys chitchat with me. Like me, he left our traveling community years back, but the need to protect any girl of our people is so deep-rooted I doubt he ever questions it. Shandor would do everything in his power to stop any man, employer or not, from toying with his little cousin.

I straighten so that I’m tall for my height. Though I’m not overly curvy, I’m lean and strong. Supposedly, I’m also fiery, a bit fierce, a bit ferocious, traits that make me who I am, traits I don’t need here in the outside world as opposed to amongst those I was born to.

I intimidate most men with the stance I take right now, but I can’t intimidate Shandor. He glares, telling me without words what not to do, and next he pierces his stare into Emil’s back. Oblivious, Emil juts his index finger at the case of lukewarm beers behind me, wiggles it back and forth quickly, lips pursed in anticipation. “Hand over one of those babies, will ya?”

Blurb

Eva Papageorgiou has one goal: to make it through her senior year of high school unseen and unscathed. But when her strategy to stay out of the limelight is derailed by rampant rumors, she’s forced to change tactics. Her new game plan is to keep everyone at arm’s length. Especially boys. So when she’s partnered up in class with the hot as hell varsity quarterback, she pushes and pushes.

Until he pushes back.

Rob Falls just wants to fit in. With his teammates, with his friends, with everyone. His image as the quintessential jock makes him feel like a fraud. Especially since it’s the only reason all the girls at school want him, except the one girl he dreams about. She wants nothing to do with him. When he’s forced to tutor the class pariah, he realizes it’s time to get in the game instead of standing on the sidelines.

She’s going to help him get exactly what he wants, whether she knows it or not.

Life doesn’t come with a playbook, but Rob knows this could be the most important play he’ll ever make.

When I finally

Review

Kristys Review (2)6 Stars

Every once in a while you read a book where you just live and breathe the characters. A book where you love them so much you think about their story long after you’re done reading. A story were the characters resonate with you so powerfully you don’t want to let them go. That’s how I feel about First and Goal. I adored it. I have Rob and Evie playlists because so many songs have me reliving their story. I have a ton of highlights, a boat load of bookmarked pages because I keep going back to re-read my favorite parts over and over. It’s that kind of book.

The writing is beautiful, intelligent, emotional and eloquent. The emotions are realistic and organic. Nothing feels false or fake. Rob and Evie are real, imperfect, exceptional and ordinary all at the same time. They are somehow both people you know and people you’ve never met before all rolled into one. Rob Falls will make you fall head over heels in love with him. He is just a beautiful boy inside and out and he immediately headed to the top of my BBF favorites list. You just need to meet him. And Evie…she is an extraordinary character. She is nothing like she appears to be when you first meet her. She is hard shell protecting a damaged heart. So real and relatable. Honestly, she’s half the women I know and watching her evolution is spectacular. I’ve always said believable character evolution is the mark of a great writer and Kata nails it.

This book literally made me laugh out loud. It made me smile and cringe and cheer and groan. This book made me bawl my damn eyes out. It made me lose sleep and blow off work and all kinds of things that should have pissed me off but instead made me deliriously happy.

Author Info

Kata lives in the greater Pittsburgh, PA region with her husband and three children. When she isn’t writing or rewriting or editing or staring at the infuriating blinking cursor on her screen, she’s reading. This tends to be a point of contention with the aforementioned family since Kata can’t put a book down once she reads the first line. It’s all or nothing in a matter of hours. Binge reading tends to be detrimental to domestic goddess/supermom duties. Caffeine, wine, and natural insomnia are constant bolsters in the pursuit of getting everything done.

She has a degree in Linguistics and is, in fact, fluent in several American English dialects including Pittsburghese and sarcasm. She’s eternally grateful to be a part of the last generation to go through college without social media documenting the entire ordeal.

She loves long walks on the beach, romantic candlelight dinners, and holding hands. Just kidding. Her true loves are football, steak and Buffalo wings, the occasional blizzard, bonfires with friends and family, and learning new things.

If you’d like to suggest items for her bucket list, you can reach her here. (Disclaimer: she suffers from acrophobia.)

🚄 Dodging Trains 🚄 by Sunniva Dee 🚄 Review & Blitz

Dodging Trains

Publication date: March 29th 2016

4 3_4 Stars

I was twelve when a stranger at a train station taught me the meaning of ugly. He forced himself on me and threatened to kill my family if I told.

I stayed silent and the ugliness grew.

Now, that word rolls in film clips through my mind. All I’ve done since my best friend, Keyon Arias, left town is cement how ugly I am. Ugly on the inside—deep down to my core. On the outside… I am a Vixen. I flash men a smile and make them moan out pleasure I control.

Not them. Never them.

After five years of being away, my beautiful boy has come back to town for his father’s masquerade ball. He’s different. Hard muscle supersedes the skin and bone of his once boyish frame. One thing hasn’t changed though: the murderous look in his eyes when he slaughters his opponents. In the ring, I see the bullied boy, all grown up, dominating in ways he couldn’t in high school.

He’s the mayor’s son. The rising MMA fighter. The beautiful one.

I’m not the Paislee Cain of before, not the sweet girl he once knew, the one who chased away his bullies. I’m the town slut. The dirty girl whose shame will never fade no matter how many men I use. He’d disown what I’ve become.

Because beautiful can never love ugly.

Kristys Review (2)4 3_4 StarsSunniva Dee just does not write a book like anyone else.

It’s like she refuses to be bound by conventional rules, plot expectations, accepted character types and sometimes even by the constructs of the English language and that, my friend, is a phenomenally good thing.  Her books have a cadence all their own. A rhythm and a style that is completely and uniquely Sunniva.  To be honest, it always takes me a few chapters to settle into one of her books, but once I’m in her groove, I am so invested, so enthralled and so completely sucked in to her characters and the emotions she puts down on every page.  A Sunniva Dee book is a whirlwind of emotion, joy and tension, heartbreak and exhilaration, love, lust, despair and triumph.

This book is spectacular!!  The best book she’s written yet and she has a pretty impressive catalogue.

I freaking ADORED this book.

Paislee and Keyon are unlike anything I’ve read before. These characters are so complex, so unconventional and so completely refreshing and realistic.  I loved them both, my heart broke for them both, I rooted for them both to find their way to success and to happiness.  Never have two characters deserved it more.  Paislee, I can honestly say,  is unlike any other heroine I have ever read before and she is exactly that…a heroine. She’s a survivor and she completely owns her choices and her consequences, but she’s also a savior in her own rite and slaying her personal demons the only way she knows how.  Keyon is magnificent in every way you can image.  He is a selfless hero, fierce and destructive while nurturing and romantic. But he also has his own set of demons to slay and sometimes facing your demons is the hardest part.

The emotions this book pulled out of me are exactly the reasons I read.  My heart swelled with love and wonder, broke with pain and fear, raced with anticipation and trepidation, and stuttered  with passion and redemption.  I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I swooned and I could not have loved it more.

EXCERPT:

I’ve been on a one-track rail to landing Paislee in my bed since she got off the plane. Not that it’s been planned, but I convinced her that Pizza Pazza in Tampa is better than Mamma Lucia’s in Calceth. I told her about Simon during dinner, one thing led to another, and here I am unlocking the door to my duplex and letting her enter first.

She hasn’t commented on how we took my car from her hotel, how she’s basically dependent on me and my whims. But hey, I’m fucked too; it wasn’t my choice to have someone fill my head, and I didn’t ask that person to come to Florida.

We haven’t talked about tomorrow’s schedule, but I’m going to the rich dude’s house with her. He could be a total freak for all I know, so she’s not facing him alone.

“Oooh,” she whispers through a reverent puff of air like she’s never seen a cat before. Simon’s playing it up too, slinking around the corner with all the grace in the universe, stroking the doorjamb with a hip before he meanders over to us. “He’s soooo beautiful.”

“He’s just a regular old black street cat,” I say, but by the wink she shoots me, she doesn’t buy it. She read me back when too. “’Kay, fine: Simon’s awesome. Straight up the best pelt ever.”

“Pelt? You ass,” she giggles as she pets him from the top of his head and down the length of his body to his tail. Simon lifts it, happy. Any minute now, he’ll crank the volume on his purr-machine.

“Wow, he purrs loud.”

And there. For a cat, he’s being unexpectedly predictable.

“He loves the ladies,” I say, which makes her giggle more. I love to make her giggle. When she stands up again, I pull her in with one arm, fingers splayed across her spine. Firm breasts press against me, and I groan a little.

She puffs another laugh, all Simon’s fault. He’s gotten to the part of the agenda where he’s going to cramp my style. His purrs reach us from the floor, and he’s scissoring in and out between both of our legs.

“Never mind him. Look at me,” I whisper. Let my thumb and forefinger slide over her chin. The amusement recedes from her eyes when she sees that I mean business. I’m hardening. She yelps. Then she laughs out loud.

“Simon, quit it!” I say, exasperated, and bend to unhook his claws from the fabric over her knees. “I’m sorry. You see how it is now, right?
Simon’s the ass in this house. I should sell him to the highest bidder. Fifty cents flat will do. Come to think of it—I’ve got fifty cents in my pocket,” I say, kissing her down the corridor. “I could pay someone to take him. ‘Perfectly good cat with a year’s worth of free cat food.’”

Obviously, I’m digging my own grave here. There’s no hot lovemaking when your girl’s laughing so hard she’s about to pee herself.
