As the top collegiate shortstop in the country, Ryan O’Donnell’s life is about discipline and training. But a growing restlessness causes him to bail on his baseball team over spring break to join his buddies at an exclusive singles resort. He just needs a few days to escape his life, and then he’ll get right back on track. But not twenty minutes after he arrives he meets HER, and the world as he knows it changes irrevocably. It should only be a hookup—that’s what spring break’s all about—but one taste of this sexy, vibrant woman isn’t enough. He has to have her. Even if it’s only for a week.

Sophie Valentine—yes, that Valentine—just found out her siblings want to sell off Crazy Hearts—the Peeps of the Valentine’s Day world. Being the youngest by eight years, she’s used to feeling left out, but selling off her family’s legacy without talking to her first? Not gonna happen. Upset, she takes off with her friends on their spring break vacation. She only wanted an escape—she never imagined meeting HIM. He’s smoking hot and intensely protective of her—and she loves it. But he’s about to start a major league baseball career, and she’s launching a battle to keep the family company. They have no future. It’s just…she’s never felt this way for anyone before.

Are they really going to walk away from this kind of connection…this passion? Or can a week turn into a lifetime?

I’m a huge fan of Erika Kelly. I have been since she released You Really Got Me (if you haven’t read it…you should.) And this series is a great second effort. I LOVED the first book (Mine for Now) and this book is a great follow up. As always Erika delivers a great story with characters you can relate to, ups and downs that leave you guessing and romance, so much romance.

Ryan is not your typical hero. He’s a good guy, a never let anyone down guy, a do exactly what’s expected of him guy, and the stress is making him crazy. In an act that is absolutely out of character, he takes off and leaves his responsibilities behind (but we all know you can never do that right?) Then he meets Sophie and he’s thrown for a loop. Watching him struggle with finding his way and figuring out what’s right for him is heartbreaking at times, frustrating and emotional. Watching him figure out what to do with his feelings for Sophia is one hell of a roller coaster ride. And Sophie…Sophie is awesome. I wanted to be Sophie and be her best friend.  She is fun, smart, independent but more than that….she’s unafraid to be herself and to fight for her convictions. It was wonderful to read a Heroine that is not a door mat, but is a strong character even if that means walking away. Erika writes some of the very best female leads and Sophie is no exception.

I was thrilled when I first had the opportunity to read this one and it did not disappoint. I loved the story and I hope this isn’t the last we see of these characters (there’s still one more brother that deserves to have his story told. Hint Hint. LOL) Erika Kelly proves why she’s one of my read-everything-she-writes-authors

And don’t miss the first title in the Wild Love Series!

Excerpt:

“Soph?” His arm banded around her, and he hauled her closer to his chest. He looked like he wanted to say something, but he stopped himself. He watched her with an unnerving intensity.

“Yes?” she said, barely able to speak. Was he going to kiss her?

But he just leaned his forehead against hers and let out a slow breath. “I’m about to defile my body, and I need your support.”

“Crazy Hearts are all about the lovin’.”

He fought a smile. “We’ll see about that.” He brought the cookie to his mouth and took a small bite. Immediately, his mouth puckered. He coughed, blowing the powdered sugar all over the desk. “That’s terrible.”

“No, it’s not. It’s beloved.”

“It’s like eating a mouthful of sugar. Is that the only ingredient?”

“Of course not. There’s also corn syrup, hydrogenated oil, artificial coloring, and some benzoate preservatives.”

“Jesus, Soph. You trying to kill me?”

“And, look, it’s not just a cookie.” She pulled his hand toward her, licking her lips before pressing them into the confectioner’s sugar. “It’s lipstick, too.”

He looked at her like she made him happy. “Everyone used to do that in middle school. I don’t know why it didn’t have this effect on me then.”

“What effect?”

“Makes me want to kiss you.”

“I know. I’m a sexy beast.”

“You are so sexy.” He leaned in, lips parted, and he stayed right there, so close she could smell the cookie on his breath. Was he asking for permission? She didn’t know. All she knew was that one moment her breath was trapped in her throat and the next his tongue swept along her lips. Arousal streaked through her so hot and fast the soles of her feet burned.

“Delicious,” he murmured, before tipping her chin. And then he kissed her. The moment their mouths met, he moaned, his arms wrapping even more tightly around her. “You light me up.”

His mouth opened hungrily, his tongue sliding in and seeking hers. She couldn’t resist. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him right back.

Yes, oh, yes. Sensation spread from her center, a warm, thrilling rush that pulled her under. His hand went to the small of her back, pressing, and his kiss grew hungrier, more carnal.

“Damn.” His other hand gripped her thigh, and he shifted her, spreading her legs so she straddled him. And once he had her right there, pressed up tight against him, his hips rocked up.

And, God, the heat of his body, the silky softness of his hair. The urgency of his kiss. She slid her hands under his T-shirt, caressing the smooth skin and hard muscles of his chest. His stomach contracted, his arms tightened around her back, and his kiss turned voracious. She moaned into his mouth because nothing had ever felt so good.

EXCERPT:

He blocked her way but didn’t budge. Wet hair hung around her face, trickles of water sliding down her shoulders and disappearing into the towel. She looked so pretty, so sweet.

Caught in that magnetic force that always bound them together, neither one made a move. His hands fisted to keep from touching her. He wanted…what did it matter what he wanted?

And then she smiled, breaking the tension. She reached around him for her doorknob.

His heart pounded, his nerves vibrated. He wanted to say something to keep her, but he couldn’t keep her. He couldn’t have her at all.

Her door opened, and she stepped inside. She’d shut him out in one second, and he’d be stuck with Brittany, Todd, Joe, and Kevin for the night. For all the nights of his college life. And then he’d go home to his Colorado friends and sink back into the sameness, the ugliness of that life.

And this girl? She was like a portal to a whole different world. Fresh, clean, pure.

He could feel her warm body curving along his under the covers, smell her subtle, sweet scent, see the look in her eyes in the darkness just before they fell asleep—the soundest sleep he’d ever had in his life—and he wanted that. Wanted it so badly his body throbbed with it.

Kristys Review (2)5 1_2 Star Review

It took took me a good solid year to get Erika to share Dylan and Nicole with me. I adore the way she tells a story and I had already finished all of her published books. So when I found out she had these two finished manuscripts collecting dust, I begged and I pleaded to no avail. Then one day I got a “Well maybe, let me think about it.” So I dropped it…NOT. And finally Mine for Now showed up in my inbox.

So on a Sunday night I started reading and I stayed up until 3am. Then after 4 hours of sleep my alarm went off and I thought “one more chapter and I’ll get read for work.” Well…one turned into four, turned into blowing off work for an entire day because I couldn’t put it down. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN.

Once again, Erika gave me a story I could fall in love with. She gave me beautiful, damaged, flawed characters who struggle to overcome their past and hope for a better future. She gave me real life conflicts and true, honest situations. She gave me people I could related to feeling emotions every single person can identify with. She made me feel all of the emotions without fake conflict or phony set-ups.

Dylan is magnificent. He is a beautiful boy inside and out and he is a born caregiver when it comes to the important people in his life. When he meets Nicole he quickly realizes she might be at the top of that list. Watching him struggle to keep her clear of his train-wreak of a mother and what he believes is his dead end future is just heart-wrenching. You just can’t help but love him and pull for him. Even when he was making me angry, I still felt his anguish. When Dylan loves he loves big and completely… until it hurts.

One thing Erika does better than almost anybody is give you a female character you can love and admire. I adore Nicole. She is sweet and adorable in her slightly nerdy quirkiness. But more than that, she sets a great example. She is strong and determined and when she gets knocked down, she gets up again. Plus she’s incredibly caring. But my very favorite thing about her is she doesn’t settle. She is unwilling to accept less than she deserves. No matter how much she cares for Dylan, she knows that until he can put himself first, he`ll never be able to give her the love she deserves. It’s empowering watching her take care of herself, not enough woman do that these days.

I loved this book. Dylan shot immediately to my BBF top ten and Nicole is easily one of my very favorite female characters. Their story is not only beautifully written and tremendously fulfilling, but it’s also lush and completely fleshed out with backstory and a full cast of wonderful supporting characters. I hope someday we get their stories too.

This book had me laughing loudly, it had me crying hard. I swooned big time, I fell in love, I had my heart broken, then I fell in love all over again. I’ve read this one twice already and honestly, just writing this review makes me want to read it again. Easily in my top 5 reads of 2016.

Excerpt

She started to pull away from him, but the loss of her touch made him tighten his grip. When he didn’t let go, she lifted her head to look at him.

They’d never been this close. Close enough to see the pale nick of a scar right at her cheek bone, that expressive mouth, and the question in her eyes. Need burned through him, sending electrical impulses down his spine and through his dick. He needed her bare, warm skin against his. Needed the wet heat of her mouth, the slick tangle of her tongue. He needed…oh, fuck him.

His mouth settled over hers, and sparks fired in his blood. Her body turned toward him, fingers gripping the back of his shirt. The hunger took over, and he swept his tongue across her lips, licking inside her mouth.

With a sharp intake of breath, she was kissing him back. And, holy fuck, this wasn’t some gentle exploration. This was mouth-fucking.

She clutched the back of his neck, her tongue stroking his, and raw desire streaked though him, setting him on fire.

Keeping his arm firmly around her waist, he set her down. But if she thought he was letting her go—not a chance. He just repositioned her so he could lift her against the wall and spread those legs around his hips. Nothing could stop his body from pressing into her and taking that mouth he’d fantasized about for months.

Her tits, her hands, the way she writhed against him, made him frenzied. “Jesus, Mimi.” And then she was making noises, hot, hungry purrs deep in her throat. He ground his cock against her stomach. Heat blistered through him.

“God.” The back of her head hit the wall, and she fought to pull her legs out of his grip.

It took him a moment to shift gears, but he slowly lowered her to the floor. She looked as shaken as he felt. His knees barely supported him, so he braced both arms against the wall to hold himself up.

He needed a moment to cool down. Jesus, he’d never had a kiss like that.

Kristys Review (2)3 3_4 StarsI adore Erika Kelly’s books and her Rock Star Romance is one of my very favorite.  The boys (and girls) of the Blue Fire family are just magnificent and getting back into their world is always a great escape.  This book put me right back where I wanted to be, on Violet’s farm and with the boys in the studio.  This time Mimi is front and center.  She’s business oriented and trying to get her dad to give her the chance she’s worked her entire life for.  When he seems intent on setting up more hoops for her to jump through, she decides to explore another avenue to success. A avenue that puts her on Calix Bourbon’s doorstep.

Calix is a session musician and the fill in keyboard player for Blue Fire, and so far he seems like the perfect fit.  But with a home life in turmoil a heavy weight on his shoulders and too much responsibility for one man, Calix can’t commit to anyone, not Blue Fire, not a relationship, not even to himself.  But the pull of his attraction to Mimi is causing him all kinds of trouble he wasn’t ready for.

As always, Erika’s writing is spectacular.  She sucks you in and paints a picture like no one else.  Everything is solid here, the writing, the complex storyline, the relationships. Mimi is a great character…smart, artistic, determined and alternately sure of her self and insecure, you know, just like most of us.  Calix is the strong silent type, a man of few words and here is the only place I got hung up in this book.  I had trouble connecting with Calix, I think his strong silent routine was just a little to silent for me.  Maybe I like my boys a little bit more exposed than Calix was.  Just when I would start to fall for him he would pull back.

And once again, ALL of your favorite characters are back in full force, Emmie and Slater, Derek and Violet…even Ben and Cooper.  All pitching it to fill in a beautiful background tapestry for the book.

Overall, it’s still a great read and believe me when I tell you I CAN NOT WAIT for the next book (bring on Cooper).  The Blue Fire family is one of my favorite places to be.

You Really Got Me

She turned on the faucet, fingers flicking under the flow. “Come over here.” She motioned for him to get his hair wet.

Leaning over the sink, he shifted until the stream of warm water hit the top of his head. She pulled out the side spray faucet, gently moving it around, saturating his scalp. Their bare thighs brushed together, hers so smooth, and he could imagine grasping them, spreading them, gaining access to her slick heat. When her fingers slowly scraped along his scalp, desire shot through him with such potency he jerked his head up, banging into the faucet.

“Shit.” Heat flooded him, and the moment she handed him the towel, he draped it over his head so she wouldn’t see his reaction to her.

Her hands landed on his head, as if to help dry his hair. He pushed her away. “I got it.”

“Okay, but don’t dry it too much. We need it wet.”

He whipped it off his head, and she led him to the chair. Once he was settled, she draped the damp towel around his shoulders.

Softly, gently, she ran a comb through his hair, smoothing it, straightening it. Desire spread, a slow burn, making his dick harden and his balls ache. Her fingers gathered small sections of his hair, and he could hear the quiet snick of the scissors. She hummed the Piper Lee tune.

He wanted to make a joke, ask why she wasn’t humming one of his songs, but he literally couldn’t speak. Couldn’t move. He was totally and completely caught up in her.

When she came around to stand in front of him, he spread his legs so she could step closer to his head. And there were her breasts again, gently bouncing with each short, quick motion. No barber in his life had ever made cutting his hair so erotic. Each time she finished a cut, she scraped the comb through, then sifted her fingers back into it, lifting a small section, all the while humming and swaying her hips.

He wanted to sweep his hands across her abdomen, trace the soft undersides of her breasts with his thumbs. If he didn’t get to feel the weight of those breasts in his hands, he might go mad. His mouth watered to taste her neck, his hands flexed to keep from cupping her ass. He wanted to bring her down onto his lap so he could finally, finally grind his aching, throbbing cock against her.

Slater snapped. Abruptly, he grabbed her ass, sliding his hands between her legs. His thighs snapped together and he set her down so she straddled him. She exhaled, looking startled and a little scared. His hands dug into the delicious flesh of her ass, holding her tightly in place.

It took everything he had not to suck those pretty pink lips into his mouth, slide his tongue inside, and relieve all this want. He wanted to feel her fingers clutching him, her arms pulling him closer.

He closed his eyes and breathed her in. And then he leaned toward her, his mouth at her ear. “I can smell you.”

She sucked in a breath, her muscles tightening, her body pulling away. But he held her firmly.

“I think it wouldn’t take much to show you just how wild you can be. I think if I slipped my hand underneath your little cotton shorts, I’d find you wet for me. I bet your juicy pussy would like my fingers inside you, and you’d be squirming on my lap, and in about a minute your body would go off like a rocket.”

Her breathing sounded labored. She arched her back, bringing those sweet nipples right up to his bare chest. Close, but not touching.

“But I’m not going to be the man that makes you go wild. And not because you’re Derek’s sister. And not because Derek’s right about me. He’s not. It’s because while I do, on some level, like your vision of sharing my life with a girl in a cottage on the river, it’s not something I would even contemplate for years. Because I’m going to become the rock legend my dad groomed me to be. I’m going to play stadiums, tour the world, make acceptance speeches, and give interviews. And nothing—not even a pretty, sexy girl who tempts me like no one else ever has—is going to sway me.”

She stilled. Her breathing erratic.

He was glad he’d finally put it out there. No doubt he’d put an end to the whole braless thing every day. He’d probably hurt her, but it had to be done. They couldn’t keep torturing each other. He’d done the right thing.

But instead of getting off his lap, she leaned forward, mimicking what he’d just done by whispering into his ear. “I can see your arousal.”

Desire raged so fast and hard, his whole body tightened, blood surging into his cock. He shifted his shorts to better conceal the hard-on tenting them.

She licked her lips. “I can see how badly you need to release all that pent-up lust. But I’m not going to be the woman who gives you the release you so desperately need. And it’s not because I’m not attracted to you. You know I am.” Her hips tilted forward, rolling on his thighs.

He could feel the heat of her, and he didn’t think he could stand one more second not being inside her. Her expression, more sultry than any of the seductive women he’d ever met in his life, nearly gave him a heart attack.

Her breath at his ear singed his skin. “You know I can’t sleep at night for wanting you so badly. And you can probably guess what I do to make myself fall asleep.  I have to kick off the covers, close my eyes, and pretend you’re there while I touch myself, imagining it’s your mouth, your hands on me.” She sighed. “But I’m not going to give you that release because, while I do want to know what it would feel like to have you in my bed, it’s not something I would even consider because I would never risk my heart to a virgin.”

He pulled back to look at her. Was she joking? What could she possibly mean?

“You may have screwed a hundred different women, come thousands of times in your life, but you’ve never once made love. You don’t know what it feels like to come inside the body of the woman you are madly…”

She brushed her lips over his cheek, rocking her hips gently on his thighs.

“Desperately.” She said it all breathy and seductive.

Her mouth brushed his ear, making him harder than he’d ever been in his life.

“In love with. So you’ll only ever skim the surface of your sexuality, much the same way you’ll only ever skim the surface of your life since you’re so set on living your dad’s idea of happiness and not your own. Why would I ever waste my love, my desire, my longing, on a man who’s only living a half-life? I want a man who knows himself, knows what he wants, and lives a life that’s completely and utterly authentic. Not some guy chasing someone else’s dream.”

She leaned back. “Now, do you want the haircut or not?”

Calix wasn’t sure why he was boarding the elevator in her steel and glass high rise, but he’d come this far. He might as well get her to her apartment.

The moment the doors closed, she leaned against the wall, and a slow bloom of satisfaction spread across her pretty features. “I did it,” she said quietly. “I freaking did it.”

Somehow standing so close to her in this dimly lit box made him forget all his reasons to stay away from her. He wanted her. Plain and simple. There was something irresistible about this girl. He caught her hand in his, brought it to his mouth, and kissed her open palm. “You did. You were fantastic.”

“You helped me.”

“Don’t think they’ll be using offal.”

“Not that.” She touched his arm, like she needed him to understand. “I meant by being there. In the audience. Every time I started to freak out I looked at you, and your bad-ass energy picked me up. Every single time. I needed that.” She held his gaze. “You made me feel like I could do it.”

“You could. You did.”

She didn’t look tired anymore. Her features softened, her lips parted. A crazy energy spun through him, throwing out images—those sultry eyes looking up at him, her mouth wrapped around his cock. He could picture it so vividly, his fingers touching her lips as she sucked him deep, and an explosion of erotic sensation detonated in his chest.

The car landed, and the doors opened. Mimi took one step forward and winced.

He stopped her. “You okay?”

“Just a blister.”

She’d had enough. So had he.

He scooped her off her feet and stepped off the elevator. Lowering his nose into her sweetly scented hair, he breathed her in. Need rocked through him, and he held her more tightly to his chest.

“Calix.” But she didn’t pack any fight in her tone.

He carried her down the hallway. “Which one?”

Instead of answering, she tucked her face into his neck and clasped her arms around him. “Thank you.” Her breath was warm on his skin, and her fingers curled in his hair.

Something hot and alive moved through him. “Gonna run out of carpet in a minute.”

“Is it terrible to say I don’t care? I think I want to stay like this forever. You feel so good, and I’m so tired.”

“Come on, sweet pants.”

“Fine.” Big, dramatic sigh. “622. See that crystal chandelier?” She didn’t even lift her head. “My door’s closest to it.”

“Key.”

And, holy hell, this wasn’t some gentle exploration.

He ground his cock against her.

5 Star Review Derek Valencia finally has the success he’s worked so hard for. His band is touring its debut album and great reviews are rolling in. But when pictures of him tossing naked groupies off a balcony go viral, it’s damage-control time. He’s assigned a “babysitter” whose sole job is to keep him out of trouble. Violet Davis swore she’d never work in the music industry again, but being a minder for a rock star will earn her enough to pay off the mortgage on her wildflower farm. And for a girl brought up in the foster care system, owning her own home means more to her than anything. Though at first the two bang heads, the rocker and the farm girl soon grow close and realize that they make sweet music together. But can a girl who craves the stability of life on a farm really make it work with a man whose life is spent on the road with his band? Feature Review Icon I was desperate to read this book, so desperate I BEGGED the author for an ARC and she was generous enough to send me one.  But then I got nervous…what if it didn’t live up to my very high expectations?  Erika Kelly..YOU ROCK rockstar romances because it totally lived up…maybe even exceeded my expectations.  Did I mention they were high?

So…here’s the thing…I adored Slater Vaughn…ADORED him, so I knew I would like Derek but what I didn’t expect was to love him more than Slater Vaughn.  But I DID.  Now, I have to admit I have a thing for emotionally damaged bad boys.  What made Derek different and so much better than most book boyfriends was he was an emotionally damaged good guy.  I loved that.  He was strong and business oriented and in the music business for all of the right reasons, a born leader.  But after a lifetime of rejection from the dad he idolized, he knows better than to let anyone get to close because risking more rejection is not worth the risk.  So imagine his surprise when the woman sent to keep him and his band in line becomes the first one with the potential to  break through his barriers.

Violet Davis has had her own share of rejection and in a job that requires her to fake relationships, she has no idea how to determine what’s real and what’s just pretend.  But as she starts to fall for Derek, she realizes that there just may be no way to make a relationship work when their jobs are going to take them in opposite directions.  Not to mention she has no way of knowing if Derek’s feelings are the real thing or if she’s just another in a long line of woman he works with and then dates.

Erika Kelly does angst better than any author I have ever read.  The emotions of her characters are so believable, so real, so damn relatable that I spend a third of the book sick to my stomach (in the best possible way), a third of the book almost in tears and a third of the book overwhelmed with sheer joy.  Even when her characters do something that makes you want to scream or hit them upside the head, you still understand exactly where they are coming from and how they got there.  Just amazing. I can not BELIEVE how excruciating the wait for book three is going to be.

Mini Review Icon

I absolutely this book! I read a lot of these rock star romances and this is one of my very favorite! I love both of the main characters, completely real, believable, insecure, flawed, strong people. There was just the right amount of backstory to really flesh out the characters and make you feel like you understood their motivations and reactions. I thought the sexual tension and the drama and the romance and the friendship and the obstacles all seemed true to real life, not manufactured to cause drama. God, I could FEEL the attraction, the frustration, the joy, the release, the heartache and the love.

And for the record….Jonny ‘Slater’ Vaughn might just be the best book boyfriend I’ve ever come across.  He is flawed perfection and watching him fall for Emmie and navigate his way through a crazy business as his dreams come true is the best of all roller coaster rides.  And once he sets his sights on Emmie he is relentless in all the best ways.

And Emmie is a wonderful character.  Strong, smart and independent, she’s determined to help her brother and his band succeed and equally determined not to fall for another rock star.  Burned by her last rock star boyfriend, she knows better than to fall for the gorgeous front man of Snatch, but the more time she spends with him the harder it is to remember why he’s a bad idea.

All of the peripheral characters and storylines were great too, not too much, just enough to add to the story.  Emmie’s relationship with her brother was a nice addition. Derek’s book is up next, but in the mean time, I am starting over at page 1 and reading this entire book again!  BTW this is a standalone novel!
