Genre: Contemporary Romance

Parker Cruse despises cheaters. It might have something to do with her boyfriend sleeping with her twin sister.

After a wedding day prank involving a strong laxative, that ends the already severed relationship between the twins, Parker decides to grow up and act twenty-six.

Step One: Move out of her parents’ house.

Step Two: Find a job.

Opportunity strikes when she meets her new neighbor, Gus Westman. He’s an electrician with Iowa farm-boy values and a gift for saying her name like it’s a dirty word.

He also has a wife.

Sabrina Westman, head of a successful engineering firm, hires Parker as her personal assistant. Driven to be the best assistant ever, Parker vows to stay focused, walk the dog, go to the dry cleaners, and not kiss Gus—again.

Step Three: Don’t judge.

Step Four: Remember— when life happens, it does it in a heartbeat.

I was scared to read this book, because quite frankly, Jewel E. Ann makes me feel EVERYTHING. She makes me laugh, she makes me cry, she makes me fall in love and she breaks my heart. And as much as I love it, I fear it also because I never get the story I expect and I never expect the story I get. Which is a phenomenally good thing and hard to pull off. This book is no exception. It is the very best stand alone she’s ever written (and that’s saying A LOT because Only Trick and Undeniably You are spectacular).

The blurb for this story is accurate, but OMG it’s only the tip of the iceberg. I know reading it makes you think you are going to get a certain type of book about a certain thing… but you’re not. You’re are going to get something completely different. This is not a book about cheating, it’s a book about life and all the things you never see coming.

Parker is amazing and complex and somehow both a free spirit and a control freak. I adored her and I felt every inch of her struggle with right and wrong, good and bad and all the gray area inbetween. And I loved and felt for Gus too, but he is only a small portion of what makes this book amazing. There is so much love and life and learning in this book and such a long and winding road to the happy ending.

Here’s the thing… It’s pretty easy to make me cry. I’m a crier, it’s not that hard, write something sad and I’m gonna cry. I can name at least 50 different authors that pull that off. But making me cry from sheer freaking happiness, I only need one hand to count the authors that can pull that off. So as I was lying in my bed, sobbing because watching this love story unfold was so fucking beautiful, I’m was kind of in awe of Jewel. Anyone who has read her books knows why I love AJ, and Jones, and Cage, and Trick and Lautner. But the H in this book is my favorite, my very favorite… And I’m not done with him. My one caution on this book is this…I can’t stop reading it. I’ve read it like three times in a row. So…yeah…addictive.

About Jewel:

Jewel is a free-spirited romance junkie with a quirky sense of humor.

With 10 years of flossing lectures under her belt, she took early retirement from her dental hygiene career to stay home with her three awesome boys and manage the family business.

After her best friend of nearly 30 years suggested a few books from the Contemporary Romance genre, Jewel was hooked. Devouring two and three books a week but still craving more, she decided to practice sustainable reading, AKA writing.

When she’s not donning her cape and saving the planet one tree at a time, she enjoys yoga with friends, good food with family, rock climbing with her kids, watching How I Met Your Mother reruns, and of course…heart-wrenching, tear-jerking, panty-scorching novels.
